At first it was a new addiction, but now it's really about recording the memories. I look back at my older LO's and none of them had any journaling, therefore no stories. I remember when I was younger, going through old photo albums with my grandmother and her telling me all the stories behind them. I want my kids/grandkids to always have that ability to hear the stories, even if I'm not here.
I try to journal on just about every page now, even if it's just a few sentences.
I want Sophia, and hopefully future children, to always know how much her family loved her. I want her to read my journaling and see the love in every picture. I want her to see all the fun things we did with her and the memories we have had.
I never really wanted to [paper] scrapbook. I mean I would have liked to but for many reasons I didn't (couldn't): I always had little kids, not enough room, not enough $$, never enough time, didn't think I was good enough. However, I got into photo editing in like 2003 and that prompted me to start making my own birthday invites, Christmas cards and calendars digitally. Well when I stumbled upon Scrapbook Bytes in 2005 I realized that I could do this [digital scrapbooking]. I could get my memories down on "paper" and I had no excuses not too!!!
I scrapbook in general to preserve the memories for my family and future generations. I do it digitally because I don't have to take out/put away a million and one different items to do it! Also, I can take it almost anywhere to get it done. PLUS, I LOVE to do it. Scrapbooking is a way to release my creative side, so after a stressful day (like today), I get to relax by creating a memory.
