Hi, I am new here and wondering if it is possible to experience false positive pregnancy results with PCOS. I am on Metformin and have been taking it for about 3-4 months. I had a pregnancy about 7 years ago but lost it due to complications. In that timeframe my husband and I have used no type of birthcontrol but have not conceived. When I was finally diagnosed I came to the conclusion that we would not be having children but I missed my period and thought I should test to be on the safe side and what do you know it's positive. I haven't been to the doctor yet but was wondering if I am getting excited for nothing. Thanks!

I would definitely be excited!!
I've always heard that there's "no such thing as a false positive" (since it detects a hormone, and if that hormone isn't there it can't detect it). I would go buy a few more HPTs and keep taking them until you get into the dr lol

I was on Metformin and many many times missed periods because of the PCOS and I would test and it was always a BFN! So I don't think the Met or the PCOS will cause a false positive

Let us know!!!!

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely fill you in once I get to the doctors. I think I am just in shock because I thought it wouldn't happen. When you don't get pregnant for 7 years and are then diagnosed with PCOS it all starts to make sense and you just think that kids aren't in your future. I think once I get to the doctors I will start feeling different. Thanks again!

Congrats girl! There are some meds that can cause a false positive, but that's because there's HCG in them. Metformin isn't one of them! I hope you're there when I pop over to the DDC!

Thanks! I didn't believe it so I went so far as to get a blood test and of course it was positive so I guess I can get excited now but I'm still nervous. My endocrinologist called and I have to start monitoring my blood sugars with a glucometer. She says that with PCOS you run a higher risk of having gestational diabetes which sucks but I can deal with it. My first prenatal is January 28th. I will keep you posted.

My appt was actually pushed back one week so I went on Feb 5th. The OB performed a vaginal ultrasound so we were able to see the baby. Everything is good so far. I haven't really had any sickness or anything yet. I am about 10 1/2 weeks right now so I am really anxious to get out of my 1st trimester. Thanks for all the well wishes! It all seems so surreal still.

I've never had a false positive. ... evap lines (but those are greyish/colorless lines and usually not as thick as regular lines.

I'm guessing you're preggers!! Congratulations!
