I am now 11 wks, and I know it's coming, and I am scared spitless!!! Tell me your story...did you wean off of both, or just stop, when did you stop?
Because of my late MC, my dr. wants me to stay on the progesterone till 13 wks.

I weaned off both (and estrogen too, since I was also on that). I think it was around 10 weeks when I started weaning off them.

I didn't need progesterone this time around, my numbers were great, probably due to Clomid.
I weaned off Met right at the beginning. I think around 5 weeks I cut the dose in half and then stopped about a week after that.

My progesterone levels were pretty high to begin with, but the RE still put me on Prometrium because I was one nervous lady! I was on 2/day and I cut it to one/day at 12 weeks. I stayed on with one until 15 when I stopped altogether. My doctor was kind of indulgent of how anxious I was
With Glumetza, my doctor told me to stop at 12 weeks (begin to taper at 11). My other doctor told me to stop around 16 weeks. In the end, I went down to 1,000mg/day instead of 2,000 and that's what I will continue with throughout pregnancy.
I know how nerve wracking it can be to stop meds-but I had no issues coming off...

I was scared too, I didn't want to get off it when I was preggo with Kaitlyn. I took it all thru the first trimester, and then stopped cold turkey. I didn't have any problems and baby is perfectly fine. But yeah I know what you mean, I was scared to get off it too! I was just on the Met...

I read too many stories of odd miscarriage so I told my OB I wanted to stay on Met. My endo was fine w/it too. I think it's helped me a lot stay hormonally balanced as well. I have only gained 11 pounds and am 31 weeks. I don't have any real major hunger pangs, I have days when I am hungrier than others, but I think it is because he is growth mode. However, you will find out around week 28 that GD can and will sneak up on you- even w/met if I am not watching all the sugars/carbs, my #'s will go up and I have not been diagnosed w/gd- I have just been watching it because until I took the one hour glucose test, I had no idea that they were borderline- and that is with met.
Good luck ladies, don't let your ob bully you. Many of them have no experience w/met. An endo will be able to help you make the decision to stay on or not and I do believe they know better.

I'm meeting with my doc on Thurs! I think it will be time for me to come off Met. I have done a CRAZY amount of medical research on metformin and pregnancy on my own and the results are very mixed. The few studies that do support use of metformin througout pregnancy aren't well done studies. There was one study that showed that metformin use caused an increase risk for pre-eclampsia but then another study that contradicted the first. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAh.....what a pain! There are no black and white answers on this one!
However, it does seem that current evidence supports that there is no risk to the baby for a mom to continue met through the whole pregnancy. They recently did a follow-up study looking at 18 month old infants who were born to metformin moms. All are doing well.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear that everyone is doing well off Met...soon to join the club.

It's such a gut-wrenching choice!!!!!!!! I hate that they don't bother to document this stuff any better... . I get the moral issues with studying pregnant women, but it seems to me that since plenty of moms choose to go ahead with both routes, they could study the results in a more professional, scientific way! UGH... my gut feeling is I should stay on it since it makes me feel (hugely noticeably) physically BETTER... but I don't think that is the case for everyone, and I think the risks of taking either route are pretty minimal overall. We probably stress ourselves out for nothing! I'm SO excited you're already 14 weeks Liz, where did the time go?!?!! Are you going to find out the sex? I hope you still feel free to post on the main board, we love and miss ya!

Yes! We will find out the sex. I have an appointment on Thurs....we might be making the NEXT appointment to find out the sex on Thurs.
I think I am OK with going off the Met but i am going to insist they check me early for gestational diabetes. It's kind hard for me to get my doc to take me seriously because all she sees is a "skinny" girl and therefore i can't possibly have PCOS. I had to defend myself to her that I had it hard-core!!!

Liz, it shouldn't be a problem for them to test you early for gestational diabetes. They've already tested me with the 1 hour, and I passed with no problems. I'll be tested again as well, just to be on the safe side.
and I too had no problems going off Met & Progesterone (and estrogen to as I was also on that), and feel wonderful. The iron supplements I'm on now can upset my tummy, but not the same way. Good luck & I too can't wait to see what you're having!!
