Hello. I have a question about being pregnant with Insulin Resistance. I have PCOS and am now almost 7 weeks pregnant. I was currently on progesterone cream and Fortamet (the extended kind of Metformin). I haven't seen my Dr. yet but was told to stop the Fortamet and continue on the cream until week 12 or 13. My question is what happens with my insulin resistance if I'm not taking anything for it. Shouldn't I still be taking it? It won't just get better now that I'm pregnant right? I feel SO much better on that stuff. I can feel that I have stopped taking it as I feel very sluggish during the day. I mean, I am pregnant and I know it makes one tired and all! But I just really feel I need to still keep my insulin levels under control. I will be talking to the Dr. when I go in a few weeks but wanted everyones input and experience.

Thanks!

Oh, BTW ... I was not on met during my pregnancy. My specialist believes that the baby corrects you(during pregnancy). His name is Dr. Theodore Peck (his son is also a doctor of mine) Here is an article about him. http://www.parents-talk.com/expertsa...dore_peck.html He is author of a lot of different pregnancy books.

Good Luck, Hun!

My doctor also took me off of met. He said it won't help me now so he didn't want me on it because there just isn't enough research about the effects on the unborn baby. I was so nervous getting off met and in fact I had to get off cold turkey which made me even more nervous, but all is ok and things seem to be going good!

Let us know what your doctor thinks. Some doctors keep women on met for the pg and some doctors don't, it just depends on your doc!

Just like Sara said Dr's think that pregnancy corrects your symptoms. I've even been told that some women are actually cured of endo and PCOS after pregnancy.. unfortunately I didn't drawl that strawl.

I guess I am the odd one here! My dr kept me on Met through my entire pregnancy and I had an awesome pregnancy and gave birth to a totally healthy baby girl. Since there are really no studies that prove that it is safe or unsafe my dr said that she felt the effects of stopping it would be greater than staying on it and that stopping it could cause me to miscarry.

Definitely talk to YOUR dr about it and see what they recommend!

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I feel as if Fortamet is my "security blanket" or something! I just felt so great on it! But I will talk to my Dr. and see what she thinks.

I was kept on Met until I was 12 weeks, from what my doc. said about the studies in pregnancy w/ PCOS it drops your m/c rate to 8.8% vs. 45% without it, but my doc. said after 12 weeks there wasn't much research about it one way or the other, so she wasn't going to suggest me staying on it...but every doctor is different, and every situation is too....good luck, but I would talk to your doc. about your concerns...
