Hi ladies...I'll briefly explain my story...

dh and I got married 6/5/2004..shortly after that I started gaining weight! I have gained a total of close to 60lbs since then and while I have been fighting it tooth and nail...it kept coming on! I've seen Dr. and after Dr. and they couldn't figure out what it was. My symptoms were...an insane amout of weight gain in a short amount of time, complete inability to lose weight even though I workout regularly and eat a good balanced diet..Dh and I both have certifications in personal training and he is a professional personal trainer..NOTHING worked! I then began getting adult onset acne...and overall lathargic feeling. We have also been ttc for 2.5 yrs and just in january started clomid and hcg shots..well, the ironic thing about it is..I finally had an RE do some blood tests because she suspected PCOS...so the very day she calls to confirm the diagnosis with me...I got a BFP! HA So now, I'm assuming that I will wait until after I deliver to tackle the PCOS...or is there anything that can be done about it now??

I would think that I can't really try to lose weight now..but you all know more about it than I do?! Do you know anyone else with PCOS who have had their hormones and insulin levels 'even out' after pregnancy??

Thanks gals!

Well I assumed my PCOS would go away after my first pregnancy. But....it didn't! It only got worse. I was put on progesterone cream on day 7-21 of my cycle and I started to shed the extra pounds and I acutally started every cycle. Then....after only being on it for 3 months I get pregnant on my own!! The first pregnancy took 8 rounds of Clomid. So, I hope it does get better for you, but I wouldn't expect it. Also, some people think you PCOS problems will go away during pregnancy. I'm not sure though. You might talk to your Dr. about being on Progesterone through out your first trimester to support you pregnancy. If your body doesn't produce enough progesterone you can have a miscarriage. But just ask your Dr. and don't worry! You will get it all under control once you have the baby.

A lot of women with PCOS stay on progesterone or metformin throughout at least the beginning of their pregnancy. PCOS has so many variations it's hard to generalize, but you should talk to your doctor about whether either of those would be right for you.

I don't know anybody specifically who had PCOS that straightened itself out after having a baby, but my nurse was telling me that they see tons of women who go through a year of treatments to get pregnant the first time, and then the second baby just takes a few cycles of treatment, and the next one comes all on its own! So apparently, it's not at all uncommon for your body to "figure out" what it's supposed to be doing.

Congratulations, and here's to a healthy and happy pregnancy!

I was diagnosed with my pcos about 3 months before I conceived, but my doctor kept me on the metformin until I was out of my first trimester...it is supposed to help with the risk of miscarriage...which I've read can be as high as 45% without any intervention...but that's just what I read online, I did not get that number from my doctor. Just talk with them about any options, benefits, and risks. Like I said, I took metformin and it seemed to work for me. Good luck!
