I just got word that I failed my 3hr GTT! I am waiting for the dietician to call me with an appt for a menu and all that jazz. I am nervous as I've never had this before. I knew to be expecting it since they told me I was at a higher risk since coming off the Metformin, but I didn't REALLY think I'd get it. Why oh why couldn't they just leave me on it.

So if you've been through it or are going through it now, I'd love to hear what you had/have to do and how you're maintaining it.
Thanks ladies!

The Metformin didn't cause it. I was at a higher risk to get it since I have IR and they took me off the Metformin at 11 weeks so it was almost a guarantee I'd get it according to my nurse.

I know I am going to sound very uninformed, sorry. I have PCOS, found out when they did my C-Section with my daughter. THat was 3 years ago, we have been trying since with no results. The "trying" has gotten more active with fertility treatments but still no luck. What is GTT and IR. Like I said before, I am sorry I sound so uninformed.

I had gd with my pregnancy, and when i found out i was so upset but after I talked to the dietician it really wasnt all that bad, the only thing that sucked was having to check your blood sugar 3 times a day. You would have to wake up in the morning check your blood sugar have breakfast check it 2hrs later then have a snack, then lunch then check it then another snack then dinner and check it. You were allowed 45 carbs per meal, 15 for snacks. Its pretty simple to follow you just gotto look at the labels and find things low in carbs. They didnt catch mine until i was 33 weeks along and i ended up having a very big baby 10pds, 13oz because i wasnt controlling my blood sugars from when i actually got it at 27 weeks it was a huge mess up with my doctors secratary not referring me to a dietician from 27weeks-33 weeks but thats a long story lol. But Just do what the dietician tells ya and you will do fine. Good luck, if ya have any more questions feel free to ask me.

This is my first pregnancy, so not really experienced with GD, but being that diabetes runs in my family and I too am IR, I figure it's comming. As far as I know, you have to watch what you eat, no refined sugar and less carbs, and keep an eye on your sugar levels. Other than that, it should go away shortly after giving birth. Also, I know the baby can be bigger, so most doctos monitor baby's size and many won't let you go past 39 weeks. I have had family members who have delt with it and they said it's not that bad. You do need to monitor your sugars after the pregnancy, because if you have GD you will almost certainly delvelop diabetes later in life. That is why it is important to take care of things now to prevent worse things in the future.
