Our little girls were born last night at 6:41 and 6:42 pm. I went for another doppler check at about one yesterday and baby b's fluid level was very low, causing more stress for the already comprimised umbilical cord. I was imediately schedualed for a c-section at 6pm. After some frantic phone calls, and DH breaking all traffic laws to get here we were taken into the OR. I was soooo scared both for the babies and the procedure. The c-section wasn't that bad - DH is really good at helping me keep my cool. Both babies did cry when born and I got the chance to see them before they rushed them off to NICU. The neonatalogist said they got the best start they could of. Baby A, Serenity Grace, was born first and weighed 2lbs 8oz and measured 14inches. Baby B, Arianna Rose was born second and weighed 1lb 6oz and measured 12inches. So far they are doing very well. Serenity has been breathing on her own since birth, Arianna is having some difficulty and has been on a respirator, but is breathing on her own in between the respirator's help. She did need another dose of serfactin today to help open the airways. Serenity got a dose of caffine to stimulate nerves. They are active little things, so they have strength and are resting comfortably - Arianna has already taken to a pacifier! We are hoping for an uneventful stay in the NICU. They are expecting them to be in NICU for a minimum of 10 weeks, so they should come home close to their due date. As for me, I am sore, but doing well. I have been up a couple of times today and have been able to visit the babies. I have also been able to pump a tiny bit of breast milk for them. They wont be getting it for a few days, but the NICU will freeze it for them to have later. I feel relieved that they are here and doing well and I am hopful they will continue to do well.

Double cheers for you. I just don't think that there will be any April or May babies this year. March has been quite a month. All of my friends who were due, have had their babies, too.

I couldn't figure out how to post pictures on here - but could get them onto my myspace page. This link should take you right to the photos (hopefully) There are only a couple, but I hope to add more soon.

Baby Updates:
So far things are going well. Arianna decided she didn't want us to leave on Monday - her belly was distended and the attending doctor wanted her looked at by a sergon (spelling?). They were worried she might have had a perferated intestine - a common, but dangerous complication for a premie especially one with her inutero issues. So we stayed tuesday night while they x-rayed and reviewed her every three hours. The staff was kind enough to even let us stay in a hospital room for the night! She has been fine since, no perferations occurred and they were able to get the irritation taken care of so her tummy has gone back to normal. She is doing well now. Serenity has been living up to her name - she is just doing what she is supposed to and is even starting to "fill out" a little so she doesn't look quite as bony as she did. She is having some difficulty breathing so has been on and off the ventilators - she has only needed to be ventilated at low pressures and for short times - the rest has been on her own. They have their first outfit. Another mom with twins in the NICU donated matching premie outfits that her girls were never able to wear (her girls were too big for them) - they will be perfect for the girls! When they are three pounds they can wear clothes. Both girls are getting a pic line today which allows the doctors/nurses to administer medicines, draw blood, and give nurtrients through one line instead of constantly sticking them. Once this gets put in the girls will have the current lines in their belly buttons removed and we should be able to hold them for the first time! I did get to change Serenit'ys diaper for the first time yesterday. She is so tiny it reminded me of the little dolls I had as a kid! The diapers are itty bitty - I stole one to put in their baby book.

I just wanted to say that I have never met someone else that named their daugheter Serenity. I just love the name and it seems to me like my daugheter (for the most part) lives up to the name also. She was a great baby. She just turned two so the "terrible" twos are coming but its not so bad. Anyways, good luck with your girls! And congratulations!

Serenity was a name I had never heard used until DH told me it would be the name of our first daughter (he decided this before we even met!). It took a little time to get used to it, but I grew to love it and we started refering to our first child as Serenity everytime we talked about having kids - we said had our first been a boy we would have been shocked - When we found out we were having twin girls, we imediately named "baby a" Serenity, "baby b"'s name took a bit longer to iron out! It is neat to hear of other children with the same names that we picked for our girls, especially since I have never heard them used before.
