Because of all the hype over bamboo velour, I was really excited to be able to get a bamboo velour diaper for free as a prize! I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was love! Ann's craftsmanship is great and the diaper is so soft and luxurious. When my husband first saw and felt it, he said to our son "And you're going to poop in this? That's not very nice." When I first put it on him, I didn't want to put a cover over it, I just wanted to carry him around the house, petting his bottom.
So the diaper is soft, and cute, but does it work? Yes! The snap in soaker (sewn as two parts so that it dries quicker) has a total of four layers of hemp French terry and is topped with more bamboo velour. The diaper itself is at least two layers, and I think there may be a third layer in there, but I can't tell for sure. I put this diaper to the test this morning. My son wore it for two hours first thing in the morning--which is when he pees the most. I don't even trust our BG diapers during this time. The diaper was very wet in front, but it was not wet all over--and he has managed to make a premium prefold completely wet front to back during this time before. And I've only washed the diaper twice, so it'll probably get more absorbent still.
This is a sized side snap diaper. My son is thin (probably about 17-18lbs and ~29" tall, almost 11 months old) and the medium fits him on the second smallest snap settings. I have him on the smallest rise in BG in order to get the thighs to fit, if this gives you an idea of his sizing.
I think her prices are great, considering that you get embroidery included in the price. A medium bamboo velour embroidered fitted diaper is $20.50, which seems pretty good considering the materials and the embroidery. You also get to choose the serging thread color and snap color.
I now see why everyone is gaga over bamboo velour. Yes, this is pricier than prefolds and covers (or even many other fitteds), so I wouldn't make a whole stash of them. But I do like it, and I'm excited to have another diaper in my stash that I can put on him for any time of the day.
