Hello everyone. I'm pretty new to this site, and hoping to get some input and maybe advice.

I have a beautiful 4 year old daughter (who actually turns 5 next Wednesday, June 3) and have very recently experienced my 3rd miscarriage since her birth. My daughter suffers from chronic neutropenia, but otherwise is a very normal, intelligent, active child. Her father and I tried to conceive for 3 years after she was born and succeeded twice, both ending in miscarriage. One miscarriage was confirmed as a blighted ovum, the other we have no idea as to why.

I (surprisingly) conceived yet again in late March. Took 2 HPT's in April that were both negative, and 2 in May that were both positive. I saw my OB on 5/10 we did a HPT that was positive and a transvaginal u/s that showed the sac, but no developing embryo. That Monday, 5/10, my HCG levels were 1159. I followed up on 5/12, and my levels were only 1237. We tested HCG levels yet again on 5/18, they should've been around 6000 at this point and they were only 2016. I saw a Radiologist who did a pelvic u/s and a transvaginal u/s and confirmed that it was a blighted ovum, again.

My OB (who by the way, is NOT the one I saw for the previous pregnancies) said that a blighted ovum is generally a one time occuring thing, but this is twice, and possibly three times now that I've been thru this.

Has anyone else here expierenced a loss due to a blighted ovum? Anyone else here experienced multiple losses of the same cause?

This last pregnancy was with my current spouse, so I'm starting to think that the problems are on my end. I'm wondering if I should seek genetic testing since the causes seem to chromosomal abnormalities.

I appreciate any input you can provide. Thank you.

Regards,
KC

I had a blighted ovum about 10yrs ago. I asked my dr recently about them, although this m/c I just had did produce a baby with a strong heart beat. He did tell me that blighted ovums are very common, and although they dont happen that often to the same person, it is nothing to be concerned about. If your older than 35, then I would suggest seeing a fertility specialist who will look at your eggs. This is an egg disorder, and they can tell what your chances are of concieving another blighted ovum.

With that said, a blighted ovum is still a baby, and for that Im so sorry you have lost yet another one. I would ask your dr about this testing, especially if your over 35. If your younger than that, than I would write it off to bad luck. Good luck to your future, and I pray your next one is a healthy normal pregnancy.

Interesting.... I was advised it could be due to poor quality egg, sperm, or a combination of the both. I just assumed it was a problem with me personally, because this has happened with two completely different spouses.

I haven't ever experienced. Have you asked your DR about what kind of testing can be done or what your options would be? I definately would be inquiring what could be done to prevent this next time.
I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. Sorry about your losses.

BTW-have you asked anyof the ladies on the Recurrent Loss board?

She said we could do genetic testing to try and see figure out a cause, but she wasn;t too specific. I have another appointment in 3 weeks to test my HCG levels and have an ultrasound to make sure my body got rid of everything, so I will ask more about it then.

I didn't even think to check with the ladies on that board, thank you.

Thank you all for the warm welcome, and I'm sorry we all have to be here.
