They are moving her follow-up appointment UP to doday.
I'm excited that she might get her cast off today, but I'm also very nervous!! She just broke it 2 weeks and 6 days ago and got the cast put on 2 weeks ago. Can she REALLY be healed by now? It was two bones too. I just want to make sure a doctors schedule isn't taking prioirty over her health. Mommy's intuition is kicking in and if I don't feel comfortable, that doc is NOT taking off that cast.
I will let you know how it goes.

We went to the 4:30pm appt. When we walked in the waiting room was packed. After talking to a few other people waiting (Makenna always makes new friends) we discovered that 3 other people were also booked to see the physician at the exact same time. We knew we were in for a bit of a wait.
5:45 they finally called us back. The PA came in and said she would bring in equipment soon to saw off the cast. I asked about xrays to confirm is was ready to come off. She reviewed the dates since the accident and said whe would check with the physician to see if he wanted xrays. She came back (10-15 min later) and said the physician thinks its best to get the xray to be 100% sure. (I'm pretty sure we got them only because I asked though). Another 10-15 minutes and the xrays were done. Another 10-15 minutes and the doc came into review the xrays. He said she is healing great, but the cast should remain on for 2 more weeks. So we go back in for another appt. in 2 weeks.
It makes me sad to think what could happen if I wasn't asking questions. I really wanted her to have her cast off for her birthday, but I knew it was so much more important for it to heal fully. Part of me just wonders if this was an extra trip just for them to get more money from the insurance (and my co-pay). I know they see hundreds of broken bones every day, but I'm only concerned about the TWO in my daughters arm. I just didn't ge the warm fuzzy feeling from visiting this doc. I really see no point in changing now, cuz all that is left is to remove the cast. It will definitely be ready to come off in 2 weeks. That will be 4 weeks of casting and 1 week of splint.
Glad you were asking questions, Sacha. Something is definitely "off" with that whole situation. That was a specialist? I remember thinking Cori's leg healed really fast, but it still was 4-5 weeks! And they automatically did x-rays before cutting the cast off. Bummer she has to have a cast for her birthday, though.
Good job on being on top of things Sacha... Makenna is a lucky little girl. I'm glad you asked and they did the x-ray. I can't believe they wanted to take the cast off after only 2 1/2 weeks. I know you wanted the cast off for her birthday, but this will be a birthday to remember.... Will she have a pink cake to match her pink cast?
Glad you asked questions. Sorry they were that way. I would be upset about the fact they scheduled so many people at the same time and you had to wait so long only to find out they aren't taking it off .
I found 2 Minnie candles to put on top of the cake too. She LOVES to blow out candles, so I know she's going to be able to do it by herself -- just don't know how many germs she is going to share in the process. LOL
My sister wants to sign her cast, but I've been reluctant, cuz I wanted to keep it "cute". After all her b-day pictures I think we are going to have a signing party and have all the family sign her cast.
wow sorry i'm late seeing this - so glad you asked questions! I've also learned the hard way to question everything (even with her normal pedi)...just to make sure...rather slightly irritate the Dr/Nurse than have a mistake made! Sorry she has to stay in her cast for her bday but her cake is adorable!!! Is her party this weekend?
