Hi ladies! I have been meaning to come in here & put our story but needless to say w/ 3 newborns, it is very difficult to find any time, LMAO! Without further ado, here is our story.
DH & I were married Oct. 1, 2005 & we knew we wanted to TTC immediately since I was 30 & he was 37. We both knew we wanted a baby & to our surprise, we were pregnant by the end of the month. We were so excited! Unfortunately we lost our Onesie on Nov. 17, 2008. It was the most heartbreaking thing I had ever experienced. To see your child on the ultrasound screen not once but TWICE & w/ a beautiful h/b to only be taken away from you. PAINFUL! Unfortunately, this started our long journey to getting pg again. On the flip side, I had a wonderful OB that understood how badly we wanted a baby & was very proactive in treatment. He started me on Clomid 3 mths after our loss but none of the 6 rounds did anything for us. We were lucky that he understood our need to move on to a fertility specialist & referrred us to Dr. Allon (our angel).
Our 1st meeting went very well & then the testing began. It turns out that I had PCOS w/ insulin resistance although I did not fit any of the classic symptoms such as weight gain, obesity, facial hair, etc. The only thing that even gave us a clue was that I had about 30 follicles on each ovary on CD 14 when he did an u/s. Then he tested me for insulin resistance which proved to be another problem. I was put on a good diet & Metformin to control the situation & I responded beautifully BUT then DH had to go get struck by lightning (yes, for real). Needless to say, the boys were affected a bit by the strike. We went from 1 failed IUI directly to IVF. Our cycle started at the end of June 2007 with BCP. I bled most of July & by the end of the month, I had started Lupron. The 1st week of Aug. 2007 was when I started stimming. My body had no problems going through it & we ended up w/ a decent amount of eggs, 14 total w/ 12 mature eggs. This was on Aug. 21st. I ended up in the hospital that evening w/ hyperstimulation of the ovaries & stayed overnight for observation since I had problems breathing. By the next day, I felt much better.
From the 12 eggs, 10 fertilized & were growing very well. We decided to do a 3 dt w/ 3 embies. Of the 10 embies, 7 were rated an A so we took the 3 best & on Aug. 24th they were put back in to my uterus. From the 7 remaining, 5 made it to day 5 blasts & were frozen. It was so hard to wait to test. I had been a POAS addict before but something made me hold out this time until Sept. 4th when I started to spot. I thought everything was over but had to make sure before I called the dr so I took out an IC & tested & to my surprise, I got a 2nd line immediately! I showed DH & then made him go get a digital. No problem in getting that 1 to say "PREGNANT" either so then we started all the phone calls. This was on a a Tuesday. By Friday, it was time to do the 1st beta test. They called back that evening & told us that we were officially pregnant w/ a level of over 700! This set off alarms in our minds that we may be looking at multiples which was fine b/c we were aiming for 2. I went back on Monday to check my betas again & this time they were well over 2,000.
The following 20 days were the longest in my life waiting for our 1st ultrasound. We went in & were so happy to see 2 h/b on the screen! As the tech was looking around to double check if there was a source for the spotting (ending up being implantation bleeding), she said, "Wait a minute. Oh Lord!" We immediately thought something was wrong. HA! She said, "Um, uh, well...I think there may be a 3rd baby." I started to laugh & DH started to cry especially when we saw that 3rd little h/b. We were in shock! It was the best day of our lives!
Fastfoward to 33 weeks 6 days in to the pregnancy...our birth story...
Let's see if I can get this whole story out. As you all know, we were scheduled for a c-section on Monday evening. We got off to a late start due to an emergency c-section so we didn't even go in until almost 7pm. Once Dr. Adam said it was time to go, there was a mad rush afterwards! The epi was probably the worst part since I had to be poked TWICE before it was in there right. Not fun to go through that twice. Then before I knew it, my legs were getting numb. Then my toes, etc. Thankfully I didn't experience the not being able to breathe situation. Dr. Adam came in & said are we ready? Someone tried to tell her that Todd wasn't in there. This happened a couple of times. By the time they got Todd, she was already in to me & working on getting Sofia out. I'm serious, there was hardly any time at all! It was amazing how fast she worked!
I did experience all the tugging & pulling that everyone says, almost feels like your belly button is being pulled in every direction. Very weird! Before I knew it, I heard a cry & there went Sofia to her team of nurses & dr. Of course, Todd & I started to bawl! I'm trying not to cry typing this out. Before both of us knew it, Gabriella was out & then Ian! It happened soooooo fast that they were all born in the same minute. Yes...in the same minute, 7:20pm. They were all rushed out to their respective teams & Todd followed. He stayed out there, got his shirt printed w/ their feet & the baby books printed also. He came in to tell me that Ian & Gabriella were both on room air & Sofi had a little oxygen tent over her but was breathing w/o any problems.
I didn't know, but I was able to spend some time w/ the 3 of them while they were stitching me up. They brought in Gabi first & I actually got to hold her. It was so amazing. I couldn't believe I was holding my daughter. Then they brought in Sofi & although I didn't get to hold her b/c she had the tent over her face, I did get to touch her. Finally, they brought Ian for me to hold. Todd was holding Gabi & Sofi was between us. We were instantly a family of 5. WOW!
