Hi
I found out i was pgt with baby 2 a few weeks back, which i was really excited about. According to my dates i was about 8 weeks along by the time i had my first scan. However, when i had the scan there was a sac ut no fetus. OB said maybe i was only 6 weeks along and i need to go back in 2 weeks.
Have any of you experienced the above and then found a heartbeat a few weeks later -
I am scared that i might have a blighted ovum, where the sac and symptoms continue but the baby does not grow.
Thanks

I haven't had this happen to me personally, but I have seen cases where after an early scan doctors have told a woman to prepare herself for the fact that she wasn't going to have a successful pregnancy, yet she went on to have a healthy. If you aren't 100% sure when you ovulated, you might not be as far along as you think you are going by your last menstrual period.
If I were you, I would try to remain hopeful, but at the same time I would try to prepare myself that you might not get the outcome you want. I am saying a prayer for you and your bean right now, and will continue to pray for you. Please KUP!

At 8 weeks they generally should be able to see a fetus on the ultrasound, but it is possible that you are really not quite as far along as you originally though. I had my first scan at 7.5 weeks and saw the baby with a heartbeat. I hope everything works out for you thought. Good luck!

Hi,
Not a personal experience but my best friend had an abortion (not to scare you) with such an experience. She was found to be 8 weeks along (according to what she said was her last period) and they only found a sac, very small traces of fetus and no heartbeat. I think they hear a heartbeat earlier than that though. They told her to go back ASAP on Monday. She lost it on Sunday BUT and that is the happy note i have heard of MANY women that have calculated their circles wrong and they are far behind what they thought they were. And actually go back a week or so later to find a proper fetus with a little quickly beating heart ......Hope this is the case for you honey.....i really do!!
Wish you and your bean health!

Hi there, try not too worry, I had a scan done at 6 weeks and all we saw was the sac. I was afraid as well that I had a blighted ovum but 2 weeks later at my next ultrasound there was the little bean and heart beat! My little bean is now 8 weeks old!

Hi there, I just went through this myself. I was 7 weeks and they found a gestational sac and a yolk sac but no fetal pole, fetus or no h/b. my ob told me that they can usually see a fetus and a h/b at 5 weeks. (i will add i had a transvaginal u/s). I went back after a week some days and there still wasn't anything there. the sac had grown and my body thought it was pregnant but there wasn't a growing fetus. Sadly mine ended in a d&c. I was a charter so i knew when i 'O'd. but sometimes it can take awhile for the fertilized egg to implant. so dates can be off. I wish you a positive outcome. I prayed for the best, but I prepared myself for the worst!
good luck, I will pray for you and your little bean!!!

I just went through this a month ago. I had a sac and yolk sac, but no baby. I also had a subchorionic bleed which was seperating the sac from the wall. My story didn't end well. I refused a d&c because I wanted to hang on to hope. I miscarried at 10 wks 3 days. I chose to go naturally. There are cases I know of that a baby has been found though. I would think by 8 weeks there would be a fetus. Definately get a second opinion and due what feels right to you. Don't let a dr or anyone else pressure you into doing something you may not be ready for. Good luck and you will be in my T&Ps.

Thank you for all your kind messages and prayers.
I have come to terms with the fact that this may not end well, but equally have not given up hope that my little bean might be ok.
I have my u/s tomorrow evening and will keep you posted.

An update on me.....saw my little bean yesterday which was lovely, but there was no heartbeat. Bean measures 6 weeks, so i have to go back next week for a scan. Dates are really out as my LMP was 25 June, but i do have PCOS so that could explain it.
I guess its another agonising week of waiting, but at least we have made some progress.
Thanks again for all your lovely messages

I went through that with my dd. I had several u/s because of a lot of bleeding. I had one at 6w6d and there was no hb so I had to wait a week and come back. And we saw the hb so all was well. Some times it just doesn't show up until later. I will be thinking about you!

My sister went through wat you are goin through. She went for her dating scan and all they saw was the sac. Her doc wasnt very nice and told her that she shouldnt expect to get a baby out of the pregnancy - my nephew is now 16mths old!!! It was just way to early to see anything. She had to wait 2weeks to go back for another scan adn then saw that hearbeat and everything!!
Praying that is the same case for you!!
Good luck hun!!

Sadly, my little bean didn't make it. I was totally devastated when i found out, as i thought we were making progress. I am now waiting to miscarry naturally, although i don't know if i can wait much longer, as i won't be able to move on until its over.
This was a surprise for me an DH and I was was elated and DH got used to the idea, but he's not sure if he wants to TTC.
I don't know what to do.

<span style="font-family:Comic Sans MS">I just wanted to say I am very sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is. I know there are no words to make you feel any better. But I just wanted to say you are in my thoughts. I am sorry your DH isn't sure about TTC. Hopefully he will come around. If you ever need anyone to talk to, I am always around to lend and ear. I hope everything works out for you and you go on to have a beautiful and healthy baby.
