I've been looking on the Tricare website for a while and can't find this... Anybody know if I want to use a civilian midwife/doula, if that's covered by Tricare, and if so, what is the cost-share?

I just randomly saw this, but at whatever hospital you go to, they should have a tricare office, so they could answer you question better than anyone, so you don't get screwed!

Yeah, the website isn't really helpful... I figure I'll call the place I'm interested in tomorrow and ask them about it. The birthing center's website specifically mentioned that they accept Tricare, but obviously didn't publish specifics. I just know that if I birth at the hospital it's free, but having a natural, drug-free waterbirth is important to me, and I can't do that there.

We are no longer military.
BUT here in Delaware, there is a birthing center that does take tricare.
Have you called them?

I'm seeing a civilian midwife and they're covering it, only because the base clinic doesn't have an OB though. You can go to your PCM and request it though I'm sure. I know there's a program too that if your husband is going to be deployed during the birth then you can get a free doula.
