Here's the dealio with me...

Last af was 6/9/09. (I'm irregular but af previous to that was on 5/15/09, making it 26 days in between). Anyway, on my FertilityFriend Calendar it shows that my possible fertile days were yesterday, today, tomorrow & Monday is my ovulation day. DH & I dtd on the 18th, yesterday, we're going to tonight, tomorrow & of course the day of actual ovulation. I don't know when I'll be due for my next af because it keeps changing on me, sometimes it's 33 days between & sometimes it's 22 days between, sometimes it's 26 like last months til this month, so I just can't be sure.

My question is this...when you want to test for pregnancy, even before a missed af, how does it work? I mean, does it start from the day the calendar shows your most fertile days, or does it start from the actual ovulation day (which would be the 22nd for me)? Does it take 6 days to implant itself with every women or is it different for everyone? Do I have to count 6 days from the 22nd & then test if I wanted to, let's say 10dpo? Or is it just from the 22nd?

I know there's so many questions & I may have confused some of you & I'm sorry but I just don't understand that part. With everything else that I know about pregnancy this is ONE thing I cannot figure out for the life of me & yes I do have children lol. I just never counted the days past ovulation. Back then my af's were still irregular but not as bad as now & I would still know I had a limit to when my af would be late & then I knew when to test. I don't want to have to wait til day 33 to take a test!! By then I'll probably have pregnancy symptoms anyways! I just want to know one thing...if it shows on the FF calendar that I'm ovulating on the 22nd, do I start from that date on? or do I count from the day it said most fertile days? That's my question..sorry for the confusion if any!!

Thanks so much!!

Christina~

First let me ask this... Have you been tested for hormone problems? That degree of irregularity does have a cause.

In order to test before AF is due you need to know your average LP. If your usual LP is 14 days then you could possibly test as early as 10 DPO. You'll always want to base this off of actual ovulation. FF should give you a recommended testing date based on your cycle information. I highly recommend talking to your doctor about your irregularity.

Well, af's were never regular but they weren't this bad. I'm on Librax for IBS & it causes Menstrual Irregularities so that's pretty much the cause for it. I do plan on calling my doc monday to make an appt.

All I really want to know is when do I start calculating...from the actual ovulation date? or the days that were possible conception days...?

Thanks!

You'll want to base things on the date of actual ovulation since your fertile days do vary with each cycle. The day after you ovulate will be 1 DPO. The thing is implantation can occur as late as 12 DPO so it is possible not to get a BFP until 16 DPO or even later since HCG needs to build up before you'll see that second line. It isn't over until AF shows.

Good luck!
