I'm seriously considering training for medical transcription and editing at this school. Someone I know IRL recommended it to me... Does anyone else know anything about Career Step? Also, will you tell me more about MTE?

What do you think some of the pluses and the minuses are doing MTE?
How many hours you put in?
If someone without any medical background (like myself) could do it?
What's the job market for MTE like?
And anything else you can tell me would be much appreciated?

I'm just trying to get as informed about it as I can to be sure it's really for me and if it's really worth it. I know the course is going to be a lot of hard work but I'm ready and willing to do it if it's right for me.

Career Step is a good choice of school. I was just browsing through their website and noticed that they have been imparting vocational training for almost two decades. That’s got to count for something. I would give a huge thumbs up for medical transcriptionist training from Career Step!

It seems like the job of a medical transcription editor is a little more evolved than that of a medical transcriptionist, but there might be some overlapping in their roles. Some of the pros and cons of the profession are:

Pros –
You can easily work from home.
It’s a reliable and steady source of income.
Job opportunities are projected to be good.
Cons—
You have to sit and listen to doctor recordings for long hours.
A lot of MT jobs are being outsourced to countries like India.

Prior clinical experience helps, but it’s not necessary to become an MTE, especially if you have completed formal training in the field.

I realize you have probably already made up your mind, but I thought I'd share my experience with you.

I am a medical transcriptionist and trained with Career Step. I thought their course was amazing and prepared me well.

Pluses are you get to work from home your own hours. Minuses are it can be lonely and you have to be self-motivated.

I work about 6 hours a day. You can easily work full or part time in this field.

You don't need medical background. I didn't have any. Career Step teaches you whatever you need to know.

I believe there will always be a job market if you are good at what you do and dedicated.

I have answered a lot more of the frequently asked questions I get here.
