I have been working for WAHA and Liveops (from the first post...under Customer Service) They both are very legit and pay on time. Liveops charges a one time background check fee (I think around $30) but you can write that off come tax time. I have heard good things about VeraFast and Working Solutions also, but have not worked for them myself. Willow is also very good and you can work from them outside of Fl, but you must be incorporated first. (Mostly legal paperwork and fees...have not tried it myself yet!)
For these types of jobs you receive incoming calls for order placement or customer service for a variety of clients. Infomertials, shopping channels, customer service lines are some examples. WAHA and Liveops I know will hire without prior phone experience but I am not sure if my retail management experience helped me out there or not.
These are not employee type jobs. You will be working as an independant contractor. Either you or the company you are contracting for can terminate your agreement at any time. You will be responsible for taking out your own taxes and paying them quarterly. At the end of the year you will receive a 1099 instead of a W2. But with all of the deductions you can take for a home office, it's not a bad way to go.
Most companies that do this require that you have a high speed internet connection (no dial up, not even the high speed dial up) a second land line phone (no cell or cordless phones) with no features on it at all. (caller ID, VM answering machine) This number should not be given out to receive personal calls. The phone should be able to support a wired headset. There is a great one at Walmart called a durabrand phone for about $10 that even comes with a headset.
One thing to keep in mind...background noise is not acceptable. Pets, kids, tv, radio, neighbors mowing the lawn, doorbells all can get you terminated. You can buy an adaptor for the durabrand phone at radioshack for about $4 and invest in a noise canceling headset, but it will not block all noises. Test them out with a call to a friend first and see what they will handle!
If anyone wants any more info, feel free to PM me. I am not allowed to discuss which clients or products we handle. Any other questions I should be able to answer for you or at least point you in the right direction!
Kaz, at a WAHM board I go to, they talk about LiveOps and other such companies a lot and the women that work for this type of company seem to really love it! That's awesome that you've been successful with a few!
Thank you for sharing your experiences!!!
