I went in at 5:45 am to be induced. I was eight days early, and was being induced to avoid having a ten pounder again. When I arrived, I was 1-2 cm, and 25% effaced. Pitocin started at 7am, then water broken by dr at 8:12am. At 10:30, I wanted the epidural, even though I was only 2 1/2cm at that point. It was in within 20 minutes, which was very impressive! Once I had the epi in, hubby and my friend Michelle went off to eat, and I listened to my iPod and dozed off!
At 11:15am, I got my lovely catheter, and at 11:20, was 3cm, and 70% effaced, at a -3 station. At 12:10, I was 4cm, 80% effaced, and -2 station. By 1:20pm, I was 8cm, 100% effaced, and still at a -2 station. At 1:25pm, I suddenly felt a REALLY painful contraction, out of nowhere. Then another one hit a few minutes later. I gave myself a bolus of the epidural medication. ( I LOVED that button!) At 1:55pm, dr checked, and I was at a 10 and ready to push. The baby had dropped to a +2 station, which is what caused the sudden, strong contractions.
I had Michelle get the mirror ready, as I had never seen one of my births. Dr did perineal massage, and I could see the baby's head, and all his hair! We waited for a contraction, and I started pushing. At about count five of the first set, he started crowning. We did a second push, and by the end, his head was out. On about 3 of the next count of 10, he was born! It was SO amazing to watch! I could not believe how fast and easy it was! I felt like I didn't really "labor" at all! All in all, it took less that one set of three pushes, and about a minute and a half for him to be born!
He was 8lb, 4oz and 20 1/2 in, and the nurse laughed when I said he was small! He was over a pound smaller than my first one, and almost two pounds smaller than my second, so for me, that WAS small!
He's been here eight days now, and we are all so in love! DS#1 told hubby today "Daddy, we need to have one more baby; there's still room in the van." I love kids!! LOL I would do it again in a heartbeat, but we'll have to work on DH for a while!
