I had no problems my whole pregnancy. Never swelled, never had a BH, never nothing. I was planning a waterbirth at a birthing center with my midwife. Alyssa came into the world the total opposite way.
At my 42 week check up, I still wasn't thinned or dialated. As law requires in FL, my midwife had to consult with her back up physician at 42 weeks. He was not comfortable with me going past 42 weeks and would not ok a birth at the birthing center. He scheduled a private apt with me on the next day (saturday july 22) at his office to check the baby out. During the ultrasound, he came to the conclusion I had very little amnio fluid. I was sent to the hospital to be induced that day. At first I refused then my OB said that they baby could die from lack of fluid and that really scared me. That night at 5 pm the inserted cervidil. I got up around 11 pm to pee and it feel out into the toilet with my mucous plug (YUCK!). The next morning the nurse woke me up around 5 am to shower and stuff before they started the pitocin. I was 0 cm and 100% effaced. I was on pit all day long until about 12 am. They then took me off of it, I was dialated to maybe 1.5 cms. I was unplugged from all my monitors and got on the futon with my hubby and slept there like I did the night before. Monday was the day, whether c/s or vaginal. Same thing, the nurse woke me up around 5 am to get a shower and stuff before they started the pit around 6. I labored until noon, which I was FINALLY! 3 cms and they broke my water. (which my dr. chuckled and said, "I guess there was alot more fluid than I thought.") My cx took off! I went from 3-7 in about an hour. Then 7-9 in about 20 mins. I was in and out of the spa tub. Alyssa started to have some decels in her heart rate so I got back in bed. I OB assumed I was 10 cms and told me to push. I did a few times and then they checked me and seen that my cervix was really swollen. They tried to get me to push past it. Alyssa's heart rate started to dropp into th 60s and stayed there. They were telling me not to push but my body took over and I tried everything not to push, but my body did. I kept screaming to stop the pit, that it was making me push and they were killing my baby. They finally stopped it but she wasn't recovering. Next thing I know it was an emergency and they were shoving papers at me to sign for an ER c/s. No time for epi or spinal. I was shaved, cathered and prepped in minutes. I was ran down the hall to the OR where the last thing I remember was the OR staff counting tools. I was then put under. My DH had to stay outside since it was an ER, but he says they had her out within 5 mins of me going in. She was born at 4:54 pm. She weighed 8 lbs 11 ozs and 21 inches long. I woke up at 5:45 in recovery. They monitored me for about 20 mins and then they took me down to my LDR where Alyssa and my family were waiting on me. I hugged her and kissed her and then put her to my breast for her to eat.
