On Monday morning we arrived at the hospital around 7:30 a.m. I was checked in and the monitors were placed and the IV was hooked up.
The Dr. came in at 8:00 and checked me, I was 2 cm dilated and almost totally effaced. They started the pitocin soon after and around 12:00 the dr. said I was about 4 cm dilated and broke my water. The contractions were coming every three minutes and were a bit intense but with a nice break in between them so I didn’t get the epidural just yet. However, all of a sudden around 1:30 the pain was unbearable and I asked (or begged) for the epidural. The anethesiologist resident attempted twice to insert the epidural but kept hitting a bone on my left side instead. She said I had what they called a pregnancy scoliosis which was preventing her from inserting the needle. I had this same problem last time and that’s why I ended up delivering without any pain relief. However the resident called upon the other anethesiologist there and after about an hour he was able to get it right. I was having horrible non stop contractions this entire time and having to sit still while they attempted to insert the epidural was extremely painful. At 3:00 I finally laid down and my very last painful contraction came and went. My blood pressure dropped really low so they gave me some medication for it. The dr. came in about 3:15 and I was 10 cm dilated and the head was crowning. I started pushing for about five minutes, a total of three pushes and Ethan Bradley was born!!! 7 lbs. 10 oz 21” long
The NICU staff was there to immediately check him so Brad couldn’t cut the cord and I wasn’t able to hold him just yet. They said he looked perfect!
The ultrasound showed he does indeed only have one kidney but that everything else is working perfectly
