I arrived at the hospital at 7:30 am called my brother on his cell to find out where they were, I made it up to the birthing unit that they had been put in. There were two nurses there taking the information on my SIL and the baby and the adoption, I was introduced as the adoptive mother by my brother. Then it was decided that I would be getting a bracelet so that I would be able to go into the nursery and interact with the baby.
At 8:32 a doctor came in and broke her water, my SIL was still only dialated to 4 cm's but was effaced to about 95% so the doctor and the nurses than left the room to let mom and baby do what would come natural as we waited for nature to take it's course my brother did his best to keep us entertained .. LOL
He sat on one of those wheeled stools and scooted around from oneside of the room to the other on it. Than he started going around in circles .. at 9:30 am he became bored and laid down on the couch and crashed on us. I gave my SIL a present, sterling silver earings with a diamond chip in them. I wanted her to have something as a reminder of how thankful and honored I was that she had went and was going to go thru all of this to help me become a mother. (I also bought her a heart shaped locket that says forever in my heart, that I am putting his very first picture of him in it, the one I took of him when they placed him on her.) I'll be giving that one to her tomorrow.
At about 10:30 am she decided to sit up she never once mentioned to me she was in pain or uncomfortable, she tried to joke around a bit with some remarks but mostly stayed quiet. At 11 am the nurses came in and asked how she was she requested something for pain since she was having shooting pain in her lower back, they offered to let her get up and walk the hall with them but first they wanted to check her out, when they did so they found her to be at 7 cm so they called for a doctor after about 10 minutes a different doctor came in and checked my SIL out, she was at almost 9 cm and station-1 they then told her no walk baby was on it's way. They busied themselves around the room, my brother was now awake and sitting next to my SIL holding her hand and rubbing her back. I remained sitted in the chair since it had been made clear that I was not to be near her only her husband at time of birth, a few weeks before.
I than lost track of what time things where happening but I know with the first push the baby's head had emerged face down, as the doctor moved to clear out the baby's nose and mouth I caught a glimpse of my soon to be childs head, I was moved beyond words. At this point I can honestly say I didn't even notice my SIL it was only the baby, on the next push which my SIL didn't even want to do she kept saying she couldn't do it .. the shoulders had emerged and the rest of him followed I heard the doctor say it's a boy at the same time my brother looked at me and said .. "It's a boy." Tears welled up in my eyes and blurred my vision I had a son. They looked at my brother and asked if he wanted to cut the umbilical cord and he said, "No, I think his mom should." as he pointed at me so I got up went over and cut the cord they then placed him on my SIL and I took his very first picture than.
After they had him cleaned up and swaddled, they looked over at my SIL and Brother and asked if they wanted to hold him my brother replied, "No, I think his mother should first." and again he pointed to me. That is when I got to hold him, it was amazing, he was and is so amazing.
I got more pictures of him while they where cleaning him up and, when they took him to the Nursery to have him measured and to get him checked over I got to go down with him. The lady that did every thing was really nice, she made up the little card for his bassinet thing, and then made two more one for my SIL and Brother with the name they choose for him and one for my husband and I with the name we choose for him and our last name.
