Does anyone else besides you and SO sign with your child? Do they go to daycare that uses signs? Do grandma and grandpa use signs when they're with your kids?

My grandmother does signs with Kiki, but none of the other grandparents sign to her. They think it's cute, but they don't use it to try to talk to her.

I'm the only one who signs to Jonah. DH was a little bit, but he stopped. I try to remind him but now I just sound like I'm nagging him about it. I think it's great that you both have some other people that at least take part in the signing.

^^ That's too cute!!!

We're staying with my parents this week, and my mom is trying to do signing with Jonah but it's kind of weird. I don't know, not weird, but just not the way we do it KWIM? I'm not going to say anything though, because he's still being exposed to the signs by another person and I think that is very important. I don't want to discourage my mom, because she isn't doing it wrong... just different. I guess it seems very unnatural for her; like it's seperate from her speech. That's odd for me because I've been doing it so long that it is just as natural to me as speaking the words.

My grandmother seems to be stuck on the word Fan after seeing Kiki sign it. She will ask Kiki every two minutes "Where is the fan?" and it drives me crazy. The reinforcement is wonderful to start with, but Kiki gets bored with it after a while and she looks at the fan but stops signing. I have been trying to get my grandmother to sign other words, but lately she isn't interested in signing anything else.

Yes, that is kind of how my mom is. She likes the sign for "eat" but I think it's because she can't remember other signs. She always says to Jonah "Jonah, EAT? You want EAT? EAT EAT?" and then five minutes go by and he's still not being put into the high chair, but playing on the floor. It's completely disassociated from the act of eating. I'm glad that she's getting involved though, and supporting the signing since as I mentioned above no one else does. They all think I'm a kook LOL that may be true too
