Nevan is 3 months old in 2 days , and Ive ben teaching him the sign for milk since he was almost 2 mo old. i swear he knows it but im still watching for him to do it lol.. prob wont be for a while... but i swear he gets a bit more calm when i do it to him b4 feeding him like he's like " oh k she knows what i want so i dont have to cry too much right now" LOL. Its so cute. Im also teaching him mom and dad too. Brandon does a lot of lil signs to him also being deaf and all. What age did you start?
We started signing at four months old. Caoimhe caught on pretty quickly that "something" was happening with our hands, then realized it meant she'd get Milk, and started signing back when she turned six months old.
We started with ds when he was about 4 months old. Signs like eat, milk, Mama, and Daddy. He knew what we meant when we asked him (with signing) if he was hungry and wanted to eat by about 6 months old, but he didn't sign anything until 9 months. At that point our family had already learned a few dozen signs and he began using them slowly as well. The first sign he ever did was "more". Keep doing those signs and he'll eventually do them back to you!
