I want to teach Jonah the sign for "hot." As in "that food is 'hot.'"

Has anyone else taught their child this sign yet? If so, how did you sign it? Did they catch on to it easily? I'm not sure he'll get it for quite a while.

We use the baby sign for Hot, which is blowing out air, like you blow out a candle.

Caoimhe caught on to it quickly since it's easy to do, but when she was playing at the park one day she burned her hands on a hot surface and just stayed there crying, she couldn't think to remember to sign. So I wouldn't completely rely on the sign (not that you would) until he's older, just use it to warn Jonah about hot things.

I've been trying the blowing thing, but he's not getting it really. He just laughs and thinks I'm playing a game.

As a mom of a hearing impaired child.... might I offer a suggestion..... when teaching "hot" use alot of enthusiasm.... make it big..... so they get that it "is" big. The bigger you make it--- the more they will WANT to do it.

Hope this helps,
Misty
