So an obvious time to introduce the sign for "bath" would be while giving your child a bath. But I know that some of the children on this board are old enough to enjoy play such as this, so I thought I'd suggest it.

Take a doll, the kind made of all plastic without a cloth body, and put it in a shallow bin (a baking pan would work well!) with a little bit of soapy water and a wash cloth. Give the baby a "bath" and invite your child to touch the water and help you bathe the baby. You can do this on a tiled floor or set the pretend "tub" on a couple layers of towels. But a little soapy water never hurt anything. Talk to your child about bathing the baby. Use the sign and the word "bath" in the conversation often.

Caoimhe LOVES taking a bath, and it is her favorite sign to do. She asks for baths all day long . She doesn't have any plastic dolls yet, but I've had my eye on one I want to get her for Christmas. I think she would really enjoy this signing activity.

I got one at a yard sale this summer, just for little activities like this. Jonah wasn't too into the activity, which surprised me because he loves the water tables at the science museum that I work at. I dont know if it was the soap or the baby, but he just wanted nothing to do with that! LOL Maybe later in the week

Since this fits with our sign of the week, I thought I'd bump it up. I'm thinking of pulling out Jonah's doll and filling up either the sink or tub to give this another try with Jonah. We've been doing a lot of dramatic play with the doll lately, to prepare him for the baby, and I think he'd be more interested this time!

He's also been signing bath all day long, and he just got a bath yesterday! (We can't bathe him every day because it dries out his eczema) Maybe this will be just as good? LOL
