Hello Ladies! Newbie here. I was just wondering when a good age was to start signing with your baby? I am planning on signing with DD who is 8 weeks today. I have a book of signs but not sure when we should start and if there is a way to go about teaching her?
Hi Shayna, and welcome to the board! I'm glad you are planning on signing with your baby, it is such a wonderful experience, and is so easy to do.
Any time is a great time to start, however you have to decide which starting age works best for your situation. Starting now will help you and your baby become familiar with the signs, and signing will become part of your everyday routine which can help your baby learn their words faster. But you will have to wait longer overall before your baby can sign back to you. On the other hand, you can begin to introduce signs to your baby at 6 months and only wait a short time for results.
There are benefits to both, so it really depends on how long you think you can wait to get results, without giving up in frustration or losing interest when your baby doesn't sign back immediately. There is a long thread in the forum that contains several informative posts that you can read to learn more about how to begin signing, you can read it here. There are also a lot of resources stickied on the board as well. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
