What kinds of traditions do you have for Thanksgiving? What kinds of foods do you eat for dinner? Anything special that you ONLY get for thanksgiving?

my family has a lot of traditions for Thanksgiving. We have a big party at my parents' house, where literally anyone is welcome. My parents live in a college town, and my parents put out an open invitation to students who cannot go home for the holidays. I've shared thanksgiving with everyone from math students, to a gentlman from Russia whose family lives in Cali, to homeless families that my dad met at the hot meals program earlier in the week. They really do have an open door policy on TG. They are very strong in the Christian faith and believe very strongly in the verse that says "if you take in my brother in need, then you are taking me" (or something like that)

Oh yeah, and my whole family too, aunts uncles cousins grandparents and all five of my brothers and sisters and their children and their inlaws. It's HUGE. We have an early lunch, which is really just snacks. My mom makes this bread dip that she puts into a hollowed out loaf of pumpernickle bread instead of a bowl. And we have different crackers and cheeses, and of course pickles and olives. I don't know why or how the pickles and olives came to be, but we always have them on thanksgiving. Then we have dinner around 3:00. My dad does all the cooking, which some people find interesting. My mom can't cook LOL. We have German red cabbage, a special sausage that my dad makes himself and stuffs the turkey with, and squash that comes from my mom's side of the family. For dessert, we have Banana pudding that my grandma makes. She layers bananas, nilla wafers, and instant pudding.

Mmmmm... I'm hungry now!!!
