I hadn't realized there was a baby signing board! We use a lot of ASL with Rebecca, 15 mos, because while she can talk, she generally refuses. We've heard a lot of words out of her, once or twice each, and we hear a vocabulary of perhaps 5-6 words on a regular basis. Thank goodness for sign language, lol! We started working on a few signs from birth (milk, bath, and bed), and while she will sign milk, she laughs at us if we suggest she use either of the other two (LOL). She's got a nice little vocabulary when it comes to signing, thus far consisting of milk, more, eat, drink, banana, ball, shoe(s), bath, bed, hi/bye, and thank you.

I've been working on getting her to sign please, some body parts (eyes, ears, mouth, nose, tummy, belly button... helps that most of those are just pointing to the part of the body, lol!), socks, and book. Thus far of those she's only utilized please once, and will somewhat consistently say eyes, nose, and belly button. It seems much of her signing has just really started coming in the last few weeks, as she suddenly is picking up signs within a day or two of seeing them (if she LIKES them, LOL).

Hi and welcome! You have quite the signer on your hands! I noticed you have a pregnancy ticker in your siggy! Congrats! Are you going to teach the new baby signing from birth as well? Are you going to encourage Rebecca to sign with the baby? I'm just curious

Feel free to jump on into any of the discussions or games we have going!

We'll definitely be teaching the new baby signing from birth as well. DH's father is gradually losing his hearing and has actually taken it upon himself to learn ASL, so we have a real purpose in keeping it going beyond 'it's good to know'. Funnily enough, Rebecca knows more *useful* signs than her cousins (age 6 and 8), who live with DH's parents and have been learning some ASL for the last 4 years. We encourage Rebecca to use it with anyone and everyone she meets, so that will include the new baby. She hasn't figured out why other babies don't respond to her when she signs to them yet, which is funny to watch... usually she'll just sign hi and bye, but sometimes if they're toddlers who actually share she'll say thank you or ask them for something and they really don't get it, hehe.

That is too funny about her signing to other children! We go to a baby signing group- it's just a social group for parents to get together and chit chat and share ideas etc, and it's hilarious to watch the kids interact! A lot of times, each kid knows and uses signs that the other kids don't know yet, and it's so funny because they'll do the sign and the other kid will just look at his/her parent like "What???" LOL
