New to the signing board, tho I've been a member of JM since Dec 07 when I found out I was first pregnant. After having a miscarriage, I gave birth to my beautiful son in Jan 09. I've always been interested in signing with him and started using a few (eat, more, all done, dog) when he was about 5 or 6 months old. As he's gotten older, we've added more and more signs ... I try to use them for darn near everything. The most recent ones we've been learning are "Cookie Monster" lol.
Usually, Jaiden will only sign if I ask him a question and do the sign. For instance, "Do you want to eat?" Then he'll do the sign for eat and I'll make him something. He understands them, but he usually just ends up pointing and grunting about things. lol At least the signs are there for him to use when he chooses to.
My husband knows some basic sign language from when he worked for a printing company. His two bosses were both deaf and taught him a lot (tho he's forgotten some of it over the years). So I would ask him what some signs were, but I've also looked up a lot of them.
We're pregnant with our second child, and I will continue signing with my son and the new baby. Even if they don't use it, I like knowing that they're growing up learning ASL.
Thank you so much to Typical Vampire for my awesome siggie!!
Hi Jessa! I hope you remember me from the August DDC. My screen name was Ophelialoved back then. It is SO great to hear from you, and to hear about your beautiful family! Jaiden is such a handsome boy (from the pic in your siggy ) We're pregnant with #2 also! It's so exciting, isn't it?
I'm glad to hear that you've been using sign and that you plan on continuing it. Jonah is the same way a lot of times. I have to say the sign and do it before he will. He does a lot on his own now, but when he first started that is the only way that he'd do it, and even now a lot of times it is how it is. I think Jaiden will start using them on his own soon!
Welcome to the board! I'm really happy to see you here!
