I just wanted to share this silly little story with you ladies, because I am so thankful to have this window into my son's mind.
We were taking a walk through our neighborhood yesterday. A neighbor was out working in her HUGE garden, and Jonah started signing "flower." Then he started signing "Flower, Gorilla, Flower, Gorilla" over and over, and pointing to this woman's garden. I understood the "flower" part, because we were walking past this big beautiful garden, but I couldn't figure out why he was signing gorilla.
Finally, I heard this dog bark, and I saw that laying in the flowers was the neighbor's dog, a big boxer mix! Jonah thought there was a gorilla in the flowers! I can kind of see how this particular dog would look like a gorilla to him.
I am so thankful for sign language, because Jonah cannot physically produce the sounds necessary to tell me "hey mom, there's a gorilla in the flowers!" but he could tell me what he was thinking. There's so much going on in their little minds, and I think it's awesome that we have the tools that it takes to get a peek into what our children are thinking

Thank You, Pattyandthemoos, for my beautiful siggy!
We'll have to change that saying "Out of the mouths of babes" to "From the hands of babes"! =D Thank you for sharing your story of your super cute little man! =D
I, too, love being able to sign with my son because he'll see something and start signing ... if we didn't have that I'd have no idea what he was trying to express/communicate to me. <3 No gorillas in the flowers tho. =D
Thank you so much to Typical Vampire for my awesome siggie!!
