Hi! I am from the Feb 2011 DDC. My name is Kendra. We are due to have our first on Feb 16th and would really like to start researching baby signing. Do you recommend any books or videos for first timers? There are so many out there and I don't want to get one that may be too hard to follow and discourage us before we start. Thank you ahead of time for your help.

I have a few books that are for adults on ASL. If you're looking for something that the baby will enjoy, I highly recommend. Signing Time or Baby Signing Time.

How to Baby Sign - Sign Language for Babies Signing Videos and Lessons | Signing Time

This is a video series that you can watch w/ your baby. I'm not a big fan of TV for little ones but i've been doing it since my 2y/o was very small. She signs and it's actually part of her first language. It also helped to build up her vocabulary because the dvd's not only show the word but also help them to understand w/ pictures. For instance, the word "Dog" is signed and then real dogs are shown.

We have the full set and my 2y/o loved watching the ABC dvd and before she was 2, could recognize her ABC's, both on paper and if you signed them. Now that she know's her ABC both visually, signed and on paper, she's starting to put the sounds to them. She also started understanding the concep of "Opposites" and knows all her colors/shapes. The dvd's did much more than teach ASL.

Enjoy your new baby!! God Bless
