i am about to have my 1st baby... well in about 3 1/2 months, but time seems to be flying by... anyways, i am really interested in teaching the baby to sign. i have read about all the advatages about it, and would really like to hear what experiences you had with it. what i was wondering was at what age did you start to sign with your babies? what learning materials did you use? and did you learn to sign before you had your babies or did you learn along with them?
My son is 18 months old and we started signing with him 2 months ago. He speaks well and has many words and I mainly use signing for his manners right now. He signs please, thank you, and more He can say them he just refused and he responded very well to signing. Luckily my daycare provider also signs with another toddler so it helps alot! Good Luck
Here is an article at Justmommies on Getting started baby signing. It has several good links for signing resources on it. I have learned the signs I use with Brandon from books I have checked out at the library and the American Sign Language browser. It has a lot of signs on it. You can also check out www.babysigns.com. They are sort of the ones who started baby signing. Good luck and I hope you will be more active here once your little one gets here.
