I am considering doing an ICT qualification so I can become a web designer.. I've found a course done through one of the local colleges here, and am quite interested.

Do any of you have a career in web design? Do you recommend it as a career? Are jobs easy to come by?

I don't really know what else to ask lol, so thanks to anyone who reads this!

First let me apologize for my delay in responding to your message. I have been having computer issues lately.

I work as a webmaster during the day at a local company here in Mobile, AL. I love my job to be honest. Most of my day is spent updating and maintaining the websites we have. Customers make changes requests and it's my job to try and make them or inform them that it's not possible.

After work I try to start my own little business doing web design. For me it's a little hard to get things going. Get plenty of offers, but most are expecting to pay little money for hard work. That is just my experience.

There are women on this board that have their own businesses as web designers and seem to do a very good job at it.

To be honest, I didn't go to school to learn how to do web design. I started by teaching myself from creating my own website. It doesn't hurt to have a degree behind it, but many web designers just teach themselves.

Web designing is actually a very good business. You do have to find a way to market yourself right to get the steady income coming in. Word of mouth, business cards, etc. But that is also what this board is here for. If you need any help, we will do our best to help you.
