I am mostly self-taught. Never took a course, jusr basically learned everything hands-on. Right now I work as a webmaster for a software company so most of what I have learned over the past 2 1/2 years has been from what I am forced to do there.
I think sometimes learning on the job is the best way. I have learned so much from just being asked to do things that I didn't know how to do and having to find out the hard way.
Well, I would admit I have learned so much in the past two years at my day job. Things I really don't think I would have learned on my own or even taken the time to try and learn. That includes things like SEO. I actually enjoy learning from my job a lot.
SEO is something I've learned so much about just from doing the job. I think if I set out to try to learn about it I wouldn't have known where to start. My DH also knows a lot about SEO but he comes at it from a different angle, he doesn't design websites but he writes about them and reviews them.
I come from a Project Manager/Information Management background and used to specialize in redesigns and Content Management System implementations, for that I wasn't self taught. Now I manage four blogs and design WordPress themes, for that I am self taught.
