Everyone tells me God only gives us what we can handle. I don't know where I read it but someone else said God gives us more than we can handle so we lean on Him.

My sister was admitted to a hospital in LA this afternoon. She needs open heart surgery and its VERY risky. I haven't seen her since August 31 (and I typically see her every day).

All I know is she has an infection climbing her pacemaker wires, and getting dangerously close to her port-a-cath, as well as her heart. Due to extensive scar tissue, they can't easily remove these wires and due to her clotting disorder they can't do laser surgery. I know they have the BEST surgeon working on her for the surgery. The surgery is either tomorrow or Monday. But it has to be done.

Right now she wants to refuse the surgery because she wants a chance to see all of my kids first, but that is not an option and I told her as much.

I'm barely hanging in. I sit here wishing I could simply go see her and pray with her, as we've always done. But I have to stay here, by my son, praying by his side. I know the risks with her just as much as I know the risks with Joey and its just so much to face. Me and my mom cried together last night when we realized that both me and her are facing the possibility of losing our child (she knew Kim was being admitted, just hadn't told her yet). We both know the risks for each of them. And right now we don't know yet if Joey has an infection in his bloodstream. And we don't know if his body is responding to treatment. And we don't know for sure that my sisters infection isn't in her bloodstream (again).

What we do know is God is with both of them and that brings us some comfort, but we both feel so powerless and its not a pleasant feeling.

And then plans change. Uggg. They came up with a surgival plan that will increase her chances of survival, but the expected outcome is still scary.

Today they went in and removed the infection as best as possible. In 2 weeks they will go in for the open heart surgery. They say by doing it this way it increases her chances of survival, but the chance of major complications is still very high.

The family has agreed to face this head on with what we know and agree is her best option, and regardless of the outcome to have no regrets.

Big hugs, Traci. I have been making a special prayer for your entire family for these difficult times you are going through. Everyone will be in my thoughts and prayers.
