When my Will was 3 or 4 he heard someone in the service mention the Holy Ghost. He wouldn't sleep in his own room for weeks after that and at first I didn't understand why. He finally told me he didn't want the Holy Ghost to get him! It took some work to convince him that the Holy Ghost wasn't someone scary that wanted to "get him".
He wasn't much older when he let his bio father know that if he kept lying (he said he would take them somewhere special and then backed out) that he was going to go to hell. He explained to him that he learned in church that bad people go to hell and that lying was bad. They certainly do pick up on these things quickly.
