2 more from my Bible study...

Did you know? When a Jewish woman gave birth to her first son, she knew she'd be headed up the steps to the temple in forty days in order to redeem him. You see, God had put His "dibbs" on every firstborn male. "They belong to me" (cf. Ex. 13:2, 12). Parents had to bring a sacrifice to the priests in order to "bjuy back" their son from the Lord. This is why we find Joseph & Mary at the temple with their pair of doves to redeem baby Jesus, Mary's firstborn Son.

Did you know? In the Old Testament, portion is often used when talking about dividing up land, food, & the spoils of war. David says to God, "You are my portion." He was dependant on the Lord, not on his possessions. He was saying, "God, You are everything I need." Interestingly enough, in the New Testament, Jesus says to Martha that Mary had chosen (literally) the "good portion" (Luke 10:42). Mary chose God. he was her all in all. God was her portion & it was good. Martha needed some of that portion.
