I started a practice a few weeks ago of reading the bible for 1 minute in the morning before I read anything else (ie facebook, etc). Most of the time it stretches longer than that, but give me a wonderful start to the day, and puts me in a God frame of mine.
I do like devotionals from Jesus Calling, but I don't always agree with what she says in relation to the verses.
I am a weirdo about teaching books, but I want to read the book about walking in the dust of Rabbi Jesus

I actually don't read my bible daily.
I do daily devotionals from my pastor. He does a daily email devotional.
When I was part of a home group we did teaching books and I really enjoyed it. We were able to openly discuss how we felt about the reading so if we didn't completely agree with what the book said that was ok. We had our bibles and we each had input to have discussion. It was really great. I do like to read some books but they aren't teaching books. One I recently finished was "Bringing Up Boys" by James Dobson. I loved it. For my kids, mainly my 4 yr old, I have found the original Thomas the Train books to be good and also Alice in Bibleland books though they are hard to find.
