I am starting to wean my son, Raziel. He's nearly 18 months, and just breastfeeds to comfort himself at night. I'm praying that the transition will be as quick and painless as possible, but I'm definitely feeling like it'll take a lot of tears and prayer to get there.
Sorry I've been off for so long. After cutting him off cold-turkey that night, I spent a week sitting on the computer at night playing bingo (the only online game that seemed to thrill him) until he fell asleep on me. Now, we lay down for bed and he falls right asleep to the sounds of Mary Poppins.Cutting him off cold-turkey worked for me, but I understand how it might not for other people.
Right at this very moment, he's in a screaming fit on the rocking-chair with my mother. He's got our family curse of all kinds of allergies, and the drainage bothers him to that point at night. He fell asleep for a minute in his crib while I was checking my e-mail, but as soon as I went to get in bed myself, he woke up, hacking and coughing and launched into this screaming match. It's rough, but we're working through it. Maybe at his doctor's appointment on the 15th we can see about getting him on some baby allergy medicines. (Do those even exist?)
