What do you guys think about baby names? Biblical or not? What is your naming style? Do you think the meaning of names really matters like it did back in the old days?

While I think names are important and personal decisions (and honors) for parents t make, I don't think that the name you choose for your child always has any impact on how they will turn out. That being said, I surely believe that God gives us certain names for our children sometimes and there is always a reason for that. Some of our kids' names are meaningful to us, some of them are just names that we like.

The long running argument in our house is that my dh wanted a son of ours to be named Amedeus. @@

Well- I don't really know. My two oldest came "pre-named" because they were adopted. We added middle names for each and they were names of our relatives (Elizabeth for my husband's mom and Warren for my husband's grandfather). My baby's name is Kristian Joy. We had prayed for a baby for 8 years and so she is Christ's joy in our lives. She was also born 4 days before Christmas. I also liked the hard /c/ or /k/ sound because my oldest daughter's name is Candice.

Personally DH and I have decided that all of our children will have biblical or religious names for either their first or middle name. Not because we think it will change the way the kids turn out, but because I want to do it as a way of thanking God for sending us the child and to show Him yet again, our devotion to Him.

Yeah, I agree with that. When Madison was born, we didn't know her sex so we had to come up with 2 names.
We ended up with Madison Ryan for a girl because at teh time, I was working in the film industry out in L.A. I was a screenwriter, among other things, and one of the films I loved as a kid was Splash = Madison. DH is a nerd adn loved this old (really bad) John Cryer flick from the 80's, in it the female lead character's name is Ryan, and dh always wanted to name his daughter that- so we comprimised. Madison was a boy, she'd have been Jonah Allen (Allen is dh's and my Dad's middle name, and he'd have teh same initial's as dh).
Our first son was named by God; Joshua Allen. I wasn't even late yet, when that name popped into my head. I didn't give it a second thought until the 10th time it popped into my head adn I suddenly thought "OMGosh could I be pg???" I went to Walmart, got a ept and took it right there in teh bathroom, lol. Low and behold, I was carrying Joshua Allen. Joshua unfortunately died in the 2nd trimester .
Anika Leigh came next. I was on bedrest for 9 weeks while pg w/ Anika and we knew that if she made it, it would only be by te grace of God (I was 3cm dilated and 80% effaced at 22 weeks, but we made it to 33 weeks). Well, we knew a million Graces, and we also a knew 3 million Hannah's (Hebrew for Grace). Then I looked some thing up and realized that Anika is Czech for Hannah/Grace. My first name is Czech, so I thought that perfect. Leigh is after My Dad who's name is Lee. My Dad is not a Christian, and we are trying to make him feel like a special part of our family (which he is).
Corbin Asher isour last one. Corbin is latin for raven- my DH is fluent in Latin and wants to someday be a Latin professor. Also, as you can see, I have black hair, and I was really praying for a black haired child (he did have a beautifully thick head of black hair at birth, but it fell out when he was 3 months old and now it's brown, lol silly boy). Asher is a biblical name (One of Joshua's son's and also a city in the OT) that I just really like. His first name would be Asher if it went well with Corbin as a middle name, lol.

We look at the meaning of the names before we name them only because we do not want to name them something like evil woman of the nite or something like that...KWIM...

But that being said, we look at names and make up lists and all of that, mainly me, because it is fun...but when it comes down to it. We pray about it. He knew us before we were born and knows our names...so I figure the best way to name our child is to ask God what He would like us to name them.

my childrens middle names are names of our deceased family members.. ashlyn has my grandmas name and alex has hubbys grandpas name. if we have any more kids their middle names will be a relatives name-- probably not a decease relative. just to keep that common bond there. as for biblical names they rnt hubby style so dont think i can make him agree to it.

Well, my daughter obviously doesn't have a biblical name and our baby won't either. Tyrael's middle name is Grace, though, and that's in the Bible and if this baby is a girl, I want her middle name to be Faith. I really like biblical names, though. My husband just usually thinks they are too common and that's why he won't agree to them. I really wanted Tyrael's first name to be Grace, but that is WAAAAAAAY too common for him. I too think this is totally a personal decision and I don't think better or worse of anyone who chooses a biblical or non-biblical name.
