How was your hospital experience with your birth child/children?
Do you feel you were treated differently because you were chosing adoption?
Did the hospital or Doctors do anything special for you because of your situation?

How was your hospital experience with your birth child/children?
It was horrible the first day, great the rest of the time!

Do you feel you were treated differently because you were chosing adoption? Yes, in some positive ways, and some negative ways. The nurse I had on my first night was very mean to me, she obviously thought I was a horrible person because I was a pregnant teenager chosing adoption. It was a horrible experience, when my new nurse came on she was great. Her brother was adopted and thought my choice was an amazing one, and made me feel very comfortable.

My Doctor was great, she let me know that I call the shots, and made sure to ask me if I wanted to hold her right after she was born, or if I would rather then just take her out of the room right away. She also brought me a special keepsake box to keep all my memories in. The hospital reserved the chapel for us as well so we could have a special ceremony before handing her over to her parents.

How was your hospital experience with your birth child/children? The actual experience was heartbreakingly hard but the general experience was ok.

Do you feel you were treated differently because you were chosing adoption? I think I was treated very respectfully and gently by all but my adoption counselor. She crossed the lines many a time. SHE is one of the reasons why I am looking into becoming an adoption counselor...no one should be treated that way!

Did the hospital or Doctors do anything special for you because of your situation? I was allowed to stay in the actual birthing room for my entire stay and was allowed an extra days stay. I didn't want to go stay in the recovery rooms and have to be around the new mothers that were taking care of their new bundles of joy and have it squished into my face. I stayed until everything was finalized and Olivia was going to be going home with her mom...I didn't want to leave her alone. I think they were very gentle and comforting regarding the entire issue. It made it a lot smoother.
