You went from Almitium (sp?) formula which is a hypoallergenic lactose-free type to whole milk in one step?

That's amazing! How is it working out? What prompted the change?

I just finally finished migrating from Sensitive to regular Similac. I'm scared to try milk!

Yes, he was on the Alimentum since he was 6 months. We starting giving him yogurt and cheese to see how he reacted to that. After a month of that I started putting an ounce of milk in with his formula. He did fine so I just increased it to half right away. I wanted to see if it would bug him. If it did I would have stopped giving it to him altogether. After a couple days of half and half I just started giving him all milk.

He's doing really well on it. No tummy problems at all. Jake was never allergic to milk, it just really bugged his stomach. My dr said they usually grow out of by the time they're 9 months - a year. He had been waking up twice in the night to eat which was not like him at all so my dr said to try milk. She said thats usually sign they are ready for the switch. Low and behold he sleeps! Although today I have started doing half and half again just because I don't feel he's eating enough food. So I'll keep him on the mix until he starts eating better.

The money savings is awesome! And he really likes the milk better than formula. I asked if I should switch him to a regular formula first and she said theres no point and to just go ahead with the milk. That was at his 9 month appt. I waited until 10 months to make the switch. Are thinking about switching Maddie?

I'm not really sure. Part of me wants her to sleep through the ###### night already. The bottle between 2-4am is getting old. But I want to do what's best for her. Her formula intake is still around 30oz a day. She seems to do fine with dairy - I never suspected allergy - just gas and reflux which she's been over since 6 months old.

Do you warm the milk like you did formula? I'm thinking about trying an organic milk mixed with her formula - part of me is too paranoid to give her normal milk.

I was extremely nervous about giving Jake milk too. I warm the milk up in the microwave. He won't drink it cold from the fridge. If your interested in trying it, I would just start by adding it to her bottle or just give her a couple ounces in a cup and see how she does. Even doing half and half I've been giving him his bedtime bottle just milk. Jake also eats about 32 ounces a day. I think thats pretty normal. How much does Maddie weight? I remeber my dr saying it was ok to start him on milk because he was over 19 lbs. She said the bigger babies tend to do better on milk. If she's eating well I wouldn't be too concerned. You can always switch back if it doesn' work out.

Her 9 month appt she was 18lbs 12oz. I think she's pushing 20 now, but I'm not sure. Her next appointment isn't for another 5 weeks but I may try it this weekend and see how she does under my careful eye.

Good luck. I hope it goes well for you. It was such a relief for me that he could drink milk because I can't. I was so worried he'd inherrit my sensitive stomach.

That's great he's doing well with the milk. Nicholas has been waking up to eat for a while, I wanted to start the transition, but was afraid due to his gas and constipation. I'm going to wait till the 10th, we see a G.I. specialist.

If he gets constipated easy I would wait too. Whole milk can be constipated when they first start drinking it. Jake got a little constipated but nothing major. Good luck with the Appointment.
