Does your state have helmet law for motorcycles? If they don't, do/or would you allow your SO ride with out one? Would you ride without a helmet if your state didn't have a helmet law?

We have helmet laws. I think it's reckless to ride a motorcycle without one regardless of the law.

Agree... Texas doesn't have one and I see so many people riding without one, it drives me crazy. I make Ryan wear a helmet when he ride his bike. I would kill him myself if I caught him without one.

Riding a motorcycle without a helmet is like sky diving without a parachute.

We don't have helmet laws here (Iowa or Illinois) either. In MI we did so it was shocking to both DH and myself that NO ONE wears a helmet. In Iowa eye protection is required, but that's it. I think it's incredibly stupid to ride a motorcycle without a helmet.

You can't legislate common sense. Law or not, I definitely feel that a helmet should always be worn.

We have helmet laws and I also think it is crazy to ride one with no helmet.

Heather, that surprised me a bit with you only because you tend to be overprotective (your words ) where Meg is concerned. Not judging, just an observation.

I know. It is uncharacteristic for me.. but we have ridden for years. DH and I both.. even before we met, and it's never been something either of us has done. It probably has alot to do with us both coming from small towns as well. We are in the big city now, so maybe that will change. Who knows.

It isn't a requirement to wear a helmet here. DH wears one. The only time DH and I haven't worn one on the motorcycle was during Bike Week in Daytona when we would cruise down Main St or A1A going 2 miles an hour. It gets really hot when you aren't moving and we were just going a little ways down the road.
When I was pregnant DH got in a bad motorcycle accident where a car pulled out in front of him and threw him off his bike. I am so thankful he was wearing one.

My DH has been in a motorcycle accident. He broke a disc in his back and almost lost a testicle. His rider was catapulted 20 yards. DH landed in the back window of the car. My uncle was in a bike crash on a drawbridge and got really tore up. Accidents happen. I think you guys really need at least a topper if not a full helmet. And make sure your life insurance policy doesn't have a clause regarding this stuff.

The bike we have now was DH's aunts. She was in an accident on it before DH rebuilt it. She was hit by a car who was cut off by a Mack. Half the bike landed across the median.. 4 lanes away, and she was in a coma for 3 days and has brain damage. We know **** happens. And she was wearing a helmet.
