DH and I had a long talk last night and officially decided to homeschool. I am really excited but a little freaked out too. I just don't know how this works. . I am hoping to become part of a local homeschool coop. So, I'll be starting kindergarten with Eva this year and well see how it goes.

Wow that is quite a commitment!

May I ask why? Are the local schools in your area inept or untrustworthy?
Do you have experience with childhood education?

Good luck!

I'm so jealous Carrie!!! I think if you have the right dynamic with your child, homeschooling is a great option. Sam doesn't learn well from me and she does better in a structured environment, or we would have done it too.

I vividly remember the video of Eva reading, which is amazing at such a young age, so obviously you are doing a kick-### job already!

Cyndee, the school that Eva would go to if she went to school is actually a very good school. And no, I dont have formal education or anything in teaching. Homeschooling is something we have talked about before but we just finally decided to really go for it. We believe it's what's best for our kids and our family.

That's awesome. I think if done right (not like people on wife swap) it can be a really awesome thing. How much better of an education can a kid get with individualized attention and first hand learning experiemces. I bet you'll be great at it.

I've thought about that, it's a great thing!! I'm lucky to have found a coop elementary school that I'm going to put Jacob in. I have no doubt that you'll do great Carrie!

Good luck, Carrie! I don't really know much about home schooling or how it works, but I'm sure with the right support it's something that can end up being very rewarding for you and the kids.

Haha, I don't really know much about it or how it works either. It'll be a learning experience all around.

I bet you'll do great at it! I know I am not cut out for it, but it sounds like you've made a well thought out decision.

Good Luck. Hope this works out for you and your family. I'm sure you have already checked it out but JM does have a homeschooling forum.

That's awesome! I am hoping that by the time Zane gets to middle school I can stay home with him to do that. I think it is a great option for some children.
