Eek! Aidan is officially registered to start JK French Immersion in the September.

The whole JK registration thing has made me pretty nervous. He'll do fine, I know, he's already in full-time daycare/preschool and does great, so that will likely continue. But me on the other hand, I may need some help. It's one thing with daycare, I drive him and pick him up and go into the school to help him get his stuff off and on and ready to go into class, gather his stuff, etc... For JK, he'll likely be on a bus (depending on the route, I may still drive if it's too long), so he'll be flying without mommy to help him. I know they have bus monitors to help them off and on the busses and I know his teachers aren't just going to leave him with a coat half off in the middle of January, but hey I'm human and I worry. And I somehow have it in my mind that a school is a big unsupervised void where kids come and go as they please and weirdos walk the hallways. Yep, I have issues.

Anyway, it's done and I have 7 months to calm my nerves or seek medical/drug intervention to get over it.

Mysteriously, I think I have the same idea of schools! I feel like if I'm not there to make sure everything is 'just so', Kaija will somehow forget something or do something ridiculous. I don't know! Luckily for us we live close enough to all of the schools that our district won't bus her and DH should hopefully be on day shift so we'll walk or drive her to elementary and then drive her to middle school and high school.

I spent an enormous amount of time freaked out too. The months leading up and the first couple of months were awful. I worried about her safety, the class size, her making (or not making) friends, whether she would find her teacher too intimidating, and on and on.

There are still days of freak outs. IE. post-Xmas, she had a new bus driver. No warning or notice from the school or transportation board. I admit I followed the bus to the school that day to make sure that she got there... even though all the other kids were traveling with her too.

Either DH or I have been on every excursion they have taken off school grounds.

I promise I do not sit outside with binoculars though... *that* would be a little crazy.

aww I think that it's normal to worry and fret over these things! I am kinda lucky I guess because the elementary school Sydney will go to is only about 3 blocks from our house, so no busing, I will drive or walk her everyday, that makes it seem easier LOL....at least I think so but maybe it will make it harder? who knows!

Haha me too! I registered Kenz at our home school so that I could get her on the list for before & after care, just in case the french school thing doesn't work out. Eek!

He will do great in JK. I too would be worried about the bus thing. It is scary! I am sure once they get into a routine on how everything works the kids are fine. They are smarter than we think. :-)

Zane's school he is in now has Pre-Kindergarden so I don't have to worry this year. When he is in Kindergarden I will probably drive him in the morning. He would have to take a bus from school to the pre-school for after care if I stick with doing that. Otherwise they have aftercare at the school too at the public school. I haven't decided what I am doing yet.
If we don't have another child we might also do private school. A lot depends on what happens this year and how Zane does. His teacher says he is pretty far ahead so he gets bored and doesn't want to do his work. Then when he does it he does it really fast to get it over with. If I didn't have to work I would consider homeschool.

I bet he will do great! I have the same concerns about school being just a giant place that Lily will get lost in. She has a tendency to freeze up when she's nervous. I'm not sure if a bus comes to our neighborhood as close as we are to school, so I'll probably walk or drive her

Gillian, I could have written your post! We don't have the option of starting off immersion here if it isn't the home school so that made me thing. I tried registering her for the separate board today (I am still extremely torn on this) and they want everything but finger prints just to register! Mind you, this was on the phone, they may print me when I go in with the stack of papers!

Good for you. I think he'll do great and I agree, you'll be doing the bus-ing
(as would I!)
