Did you all take your child for a 4 year well checkup?

I've had Maddie at the DR so often the last quarter of last year, between pneumonia, sickies, and flu shots/boosters, this totally slipped my mind since our trip on her birthday and the surgery.

Is it really necessary? If they got any Vaccs, which one?

Sydney is scheduled for the 20th, she needs her well check and will get a booster shot I think (MMR booster I think) plus she is getting new ear tubes put in next week and so she needs to have an ear check too. I do a yearly appointment every year for her, she hasn't been to the pedi since her last well check though only the ENT. Plus I have to have forms for school filled out once a year with physical stuff so we have to go in for that anyway.

I believe Aiden will be getting shots at his 4 year check up but we have not gone yet. I need to make an appointment still. With everything going on it has slipped pass us. Right now Preston has 2 appointments that i have to leave work for so I'm pushing it back a little longer. I don't get paid for time off.

Sam is going but it's not really necessary for her. I know they are supposed to get a booster, but since we don't do vaxes there really isn't a point. However, if we don't see her ped at least once a year, we can lose our spot. Since he is respectful of our choice not to vaccinate, I don't want to lose him.

I just called two days ago and left a msg for his secretary (she's kind of useless) to call me back for an appointment. Apparently Sam's ped is on vacation until March anyway, so she won't see him until mid/late March.

We went and Zane did not get shots. I have decided that we aren't vaxing anymore. After his last set at 2.5 it caused bad reactions in him and after doing a lot of research I don't feel it is the right thing for him. I went to the county health dept and got an exception form to give to the school so now we don't have to worry about that anymore. Thank goodness!
We also switched doctors (leans more towards holistic) and I talked to him about his hyperactivity. We are probably going to put him on a special diet soon (possibly gluten and sugar free). I am still doing research on the diet and he is going to be sending me some information on what he reccomends. We also needed to go because the school wants a physical form on file so we had that updated.

Meghan's is tomorrow. We haven't had a well kiddo check up since 2 years old. She will be getting a tetanus vaccine.. and I am reviewing 1 other that we might do. I am still deciding though, since she is usually non-vaccinated. Otherwise, we are still getting acquainted our new pedi, so we are doing a check up.

Kaija had hers just after her birthday and had 2 vax's. She STILL has a bruise on one leg from one of them and that was 3.5 weeks ago! Basically we got them now so we wouldn't have to next year for school. She'll have to have another lead test for school then, but it's no biggie.

I haven't taken her specifically for a well check. She was in and out so often over the summer and fall though that I didn't really think of it either. We saw a pedi because of her bladder infections in November I think it was, and he had no issues and seemed happy over all. Gave suggestions for diet and retraining her bladder. With the exception of a couple random days over the last 4 months, and randomly at school during nap time, we haven't had any real issues with her bladder lately so I hadn't thought of doing a check up.

I have to check the Canadian schedule and see if she is due any vax before school. She had diptheria (I think thats what she had) in August after the horrible 2 week plague that attacked my house. Otherwise I *think* we are up to date.

Jacob had his last week, he didn't get any vax. After the reaction he had the last 2 times I'm not sure he'll be getting any more period. Like Kaija he still had a mark over 3 weeks later.

We haven't been since she was 2 and I never made a 4 year either. I asked the doc at Oliver's last appointment and she said we don't need to go again until 5 for shots for school. She said other than that we could go yearly but it's not nessasary.

I'm not sure. She was just in at the beginning of November so the pedi could fill out the health form for daycare. She didn't get shots then, but I think they were calling that a 3 year well visit. Who knows. I still have to call the pedi and argue with them again about Abri's 18 month shots. They think we didn't get them (we did because she threw a fit rolling around and refusing to put her clothes on afterwards because she was so mad- you can't forget that) and keep calling me about it.

Yep, I've got it scheduled for later this month. Our GP standard practice is to not do well checks and only see them if there are concerns. But, with his ongoing iron issues, she likes to see him a couple times a year and I don't think he's been in to see her since his 3yr check. We did a blood draw 6mos ago, but it came back normal so we didn't bother going in.

As for vaccines, she did tell me he's do for a booster and I believe she said it was the DTaP. I checked the Ontario schedule of vaccines and on the "routine" path that we're following, it also says he'd be do for the MMRV. Both are to be given 4 - 6 yrs of age prior to starting school.

Gillian, those are the 2 that Kaija got. I have no idea which one is still bruised though.

The bruising is likely caused by how it was administered and not the shot itself. Not trying to start a debate, just saying that when you get a needle and you are tense or tense up while it's going in or if the person giving it isn't all the gentle, you can bruise. I had bruised on my arms from when I was in the hospital and they had to dig around for veins that lasted for a good 3 or 4 weeks.

^^ That's very true and most likely the case for us. She lost her mind when the nurses came at her with the needles! So there was definitely tension there

Joshua had his 4 year check up the week after his birthday. They checked his hearing, his vision (with a cool machine, not reading a chart), blood pressure, height, weight, and he got a few shots. I really like his pedi and I always enjoy taking him to well visits because it's a much better experience than when he is sick! He measured in at 43 pounds and 43.5 inches

Frederick went in and got DTAP, MMR, and PCV13. He didn't need the Varicella shot since he got both of those already. Plus he got a flu shot.

It's a requirement that at age 4 his school wants a physical, dental, and vision check-up. He got each one. I learned he is hyperopic. They just want to moniter it for now but will re-check him again in a couple months or next year if nothing pressing happens between now and then.

C's appt was today. We did a polio vax and lead test; both were for his pre school forms. I figured I'd get them filled out now instead of having to do another appt in the summer.
