So Walter had been night trained for awhile with an occasional little wetness in front upon waking. For the past 5 nights he has SOAKED his sheets. I am ready to go ape**** I am so frustrated with it.
I finally went and bought him those hideous underwear covers and put him in it last night and low and behold he still peed and it leaked.

I really don't want to put him back in pullups, they are expensive and he is 4. He needs to be holding his pee like he has been for over a month. WTH is going on and what do I do?

He even pees when we make him pee at 11 and try and limit fluids before bed.

Hmmm, is he sick? Has anything changed in the last 5 days?

That does sound frustrating. My first thought was he may be sick or something. It's strange that he'd be good for a month and then the sudden change. Does he wake up when the sheets are soaked? Maybe he's just a really deep sleeper. Have you tried just talking to him about it? I know that Walter has always been one that you can sit and have thoughtful conversations with and he seems pretty good at expressing his feelings. Maybe see if there is something bugging him or some sort of clue as to what the issue might be.

hmm I really don't know, other than being sick or something I am not sure what could of changed to cause it? I was going to say try waking him before you go to bed and limiting fluids but it sounds like you are already doing that..... I agree maybe talk to him and see if something is bugging him. I hope it gets better soon!!!

He has a little head cold.

I talked to him about it and he said that he doesn't mean to and that he tries to wake up and go on his own (sometimes he does) but sometimes he doesn't wake up until he's peed.

He is a super deep sleeper.

He isn't asking for pullups or anything so I don't think it's attention seeking or anything. I think he just can't wake up. Maybe he's just going to be one of those bed wetters.

I honestly wouldn't say much more to him about it and I would put him back in pullups until he gets on another stride of waking up dry. Some kids just struggle with this and I think the more attention given to it the worse it can get. They also have a bed wetting device you hook to their underwear that beats when the child starts to go. My nephew had to use it at age 9 to stop peeing the bed. He was just too deep of a sleeper and didn't wake up.

I was a bed wetter. I don't know when it stopped, but I do have memories of it, so I'm sure I was easily 6 or so years old. I can remember taking a pill before I went to bed that was supposed to help. No clue how well it worked or what the heck it was. It was the 70s, lord knows what crap I was given.

Holly makes a good point about not drawing too much attention to it. If there is some anxiety on his part that is causing the issue (not saying it is, but if), the attention will only make that worse.

have you ever taken him to a chiropractor? that can help with bedwetting. i also recently read an article about how constipation in kids can cause bedwetting. is he constipated? have you tried hylands bedwetting tablets? Sarah very rarely wets the bed, but when she does it's because she is sick.

Even just sick with a mild cold? He's had a littke cough for a week, totally minor.

I'll try the hylands tabs. Never heard of them. We could try a chirp if it becomes a drawn out issue for sure.

I guess I'll put him in pull ups for a week and then take it from there. I am so behind with laundry because I have washed his bedding every day.

not a mild cold, it's usually when she has a high fever. hopefully it's only temporary!

Do you have an idea of when he is wetting - ie. around 2 hours after going to sleep?

I might try waking him in advance of the wetting (even if it's an hour and a half after he's fallen asleep) to see if you can get him to go. I really wouldn't even say anything more about it, either.

I bought some pads from Bed Bath and Beyond that I put under Sam every night. Maybe you could buy two and switch them out if he wets one.

Waterproof Mattress Underpad - Bed Bath & Beyond

I would avoid the dipes at this point.

Zane is a very heavy sleeper and sometimes he wakes up dry and other times he is soaked. He is still in pull ups at night. I was going to try to take them away soon to see what happens. I am just worried that if he wets the bed it will make him really upset because I know he won't mean to and I know he wants to try.

If you don't want to put him back in pull ups I would try waking him more often at night, even if it means setting your alarm. He probably can't help peeing in his sleep if he is a deep sleeper and can't wake up to go on his own yet. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. All kids learn this potty training stuff at different paces.

He usually has accidents very early in the morning, like between 4-7. He is fine until then, wakes on his own if he needs to. Maybe I'll have my husband wake him at like 6 when he wakes up. I can't afford to wake up extra being pregnant and on sleeping pills for nausea and then dealing with Sams wakings. But my husband is capable.

Aiden did the same thing and here is what we did. First we didn't make a big deal over it when he did wet the bed but mornings he woke up dry to made a huge deal over it. Nights he wet the bed, we changed the sheets and went on our way. We didn't want to make him feel like he was doing anything wrong. He went a good week where he was wetting the bed and then went awhile where he didn't but then a week where he would wet again.

I wouldn't put him back in pull ups. I would let him learn. This is the only way he will learn to notice that he need to go.

I think I agree, which is why I went out and got the plastic covers. I want him to feel when he wets and not sleep through it.

I am just SO exhausted between being drugged up from the Unisom sleeping pills to dealing with Sam nursing in the night and then when Walter comes in my room waking me up asking me to go change his sheets, I feel so ill getting up and dealing with it. My husband has been sleeping on the couch because Sam wakes him up too much and Walter always forgets to go to my husband and just comes to me. And then I end up feeling bad going to wake up my husband because at that point I am already up so I might as well deal with it.

I wish the plastic covers would hold it in but they didnt last night. I may get something like the pad linked above that can go on top of the sheets. Thanks!

I covered Aiden mattress with a plastic cover for a long time. I do understand that it is hard on you. I would totally wake up the husband to help out with changing the sheets since Sam still is nursing and your pregnant. Don't feel bad... mommy need her rest too. I think he will learn but it will just take time. I recall going through this with Aiden and it will get better. He will either learn to hold it or wake up to go. If Aiden wakes up to go, he normally wakes me up to go with him.

Chiro? Hylands? Ohh, I'll have to look into those! Donovan is still not night trained, and I know he wants to be, and he keeps taking his diaper off at night and peeing all over everything.

Sorry he's been regressing! I hope you find a solution.

And.....pregnant!?!?! How exciting! Congratulations!!!

We are right with you. When we saw the Pedi in the fall, he said it is perfectly normal for this age and like you said, deep sleepers. He said that medically, Dr's wont intervene until the age of 7! Like the others said, any attention drawn to it can/will make it worse.

Honestly, I am just as frustrated and it is a good chunk of why I am going to try cloth this time around! I have been buying some form of diaper or pull up for more than 4 years and about to start again. Makes me crazy!!!

I may also try the chiro route, I have a really good one who has a little one just 2 months younger than ours and she has been treating her little girl with adjustments etc. since she was about a month or 2 old from what I can remember

Good Luck Kristen!!!!!! Hopefully this passes quickly for you!
