what's the name of the "mini pill?" i am taking a bc pill that my doctor assured me is safe to take while breastfeeding, but he never referred to it as the "mini pill." so for those of you taking the mini pill, what's the actual name of the pill??
i am taking low-ogestrel.

My minipill is Errin. Have you looked up your med on www.webmd.com? That's where I usually look up my medication information. I did a quick search on low-ogestrel and came up with the following under the 'percautions' tab:

This medication must not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, tell your doctor immediately. If you have just given birth or had a pregnancy loss/abortion after the first 3 months, talk with your doctor about reliable forms of birth control, and find out when it is safe to start using birth control that contains a form of estrogen, such as this medication.

This medication passes into breast milk. This may affect milk production and may have harmful effects on a nursing infant. Breast-feeding is not recommended while using this product. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

I can't guarantee the accuracy of www.webmd.com but it sounds like you might have a valid concern...

When I searched Errin (my mini-pill) it said along the same lines..."Norethindrone should not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. This drug passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effect on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding."

oh no, the last thing i wanna do is harm my baby! i started yesterday so i've only taken one pill, but i'm kinda freaking out and wonder if i should continue taking it.

ETA: i think my doctor is very intelligent and i don't know why he'd prescribe something that isn't safe when he knows that i'm nursing.

Mine also said that. Did the pack come with an insert inside the actual pill pack? Mine did and had a lot more detailed information about that pill instead of the standard generic warnings they put on all of them.

You might try cvs.com for more information.

My doctor told me that a normal birth control pill would not harm baby but it could affect milk production. That is why the mini-pill is prescribed instead if you are breastfeeding. I'd call and get specifics from your doctor if you aren't feeling good about it.

we did discuss the milk supply issue, but since i have an over supply he said i should be fine, but if i do notice a drastic change in supply he would prescribe something else.
i think i'm just being paranoid.
