1-1.5 lb. meat (can range from 1.39 to 3.39, depending on size, cut, and choice of beef, pork, or chicken)
1 jar of bbq sauce (cheap stuff-.59)
1 package of buns (.99)

total: 2.97-4.97

*I like to serve with corn and a pasta side, so that's an additional .89 or so*

In crockpot, place your choice of 1-1.5 # roast (beef, pork, or you can even do some large chicken breasts and reduce the time a bit). I like london broil because it has very little fat. Season, add a cup of water, cover, and cook on high for three or four hours. It should be nicely shreddable. Remove from crockpot and shred with two forks. Remove most of the liquid, put the shredded meat back in crock, add the bbq sauce (I also add about 1 TBSP brown sugar, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/4 tsp pepper, and 1/2 tsp onion powder when I'm using a cheapie sauce, but that's optional). Put a little water in the bottle (maybe 3 TBSP or so) and shake to get all the sauce out. Add to the meat. Then mix it up, and continue to cook it on low for however long you want. The longer it heats on low, the better the flavor and more tender the meat.

Serve on buns with whatever sides you like...

We eat this all the time!!! We get free beef roasts from hubby's work .... and this year we got part of a piggy too so I have both beef and pork roasts in my freezer that I go free! MAJOR cheap meal that way!
