Yesterday afternoon I was feeling period crampy and today I do, too. Does anyone know if that's Braxton Hicks, false labor, or another way of your body just preparing for labor or what? It's not horrible pain or anything by any means, but I'm just wondering. My stomach does seem to be tightening but only really at the top. It really just kind of feels like Amelia is pushing her butt up so I'm totally confused...

I wish I knew what to tell you Hollie. But I'm so interested to see what others have to say. People keep asking if I'm having contractions, how the heck am I supposed to know...this is our first time?!?! Anyway, I agree though it has to be a sign of progression!!!!

I called my midwife's office and spoke with the nurse - because Amelia hasn't been moving a ton either - and she said it's all normal and probably just my body preparing for labor... which I pretty much assumed. It just makes me nervous that she hasn't been moving much. The nurse also said that's normal since she's full term and to do a kick count when I can. I'm drinking a hot chocolate now to get a little sugar to her and then I'm going to do a count. She definitely has been moving so I'm not super concerned, but I just want to make sure.

Did she say anything about the cramping? My question is how do you know if it's a cramp or a contraction?

No, she didn't really. She just said that contractions would come and go. This crampy feeling finally did go so maybe it's just a contraction with a TON of time in between. We'll see I guess.

I think its just your body getting ready and making a little progression. I felt like that towards the end and they told me not to worry it was probably just braxton hicks. When I went back to my appt i'd dialated.

I'm glad you posted this Hollie, because I've been feeling this off and on too. I do find that my belly hardens alot lately too.... I mean rock hard. I don't get any pain with it so I assume that it's just BH.

Sorry you're having cramps! My friend was having period like cramps last night that started to get pretty painful. She went to the ER and delivered her twins around 3am this morning! She was only 32 weeks too. So I think it might just depend on the person. What do I know though?

I think the crampiness is considered an 'irritable uterus' and is your body getting ready. I had the same feelings the last few weeks of my pregnancy. As for when your tummy gets hard--that is a BH. . . I didn't have a ton of those that I noticed, but my body needed some urging to get into the swing of things!

haha!! Someone else said that to me & I thought it was a little rude (maybe it was just me being oversensitive & hormonal), but I hate to say it...it is true.
Contractions keep coming & don't let up. You may just be getting some BH, could be ligaments continuing to stretch, could be the baby getting into position...it could be so many things. A lot is going on in there right now so it's hard to say. But it is normal for movement to slow down at the end. They don't have a heck of a lot of room to move in there these days. As long as you feel the baby move at least 3 times in an hour, it's ok, according to my OB.

HAHAHA, OMG you aren't kidding!
A contraction will have you sweating and flushed in the cheeks...trust me you will know. I will say though that the night before I went into labor, I had cramping which felt like menstrual/ gas pains. I also had a little ache in my lower back. It was gone that morning though so I thought nothing of it. A few hours later my water broke. So it could for sure be a sign of progression. Nothing to panic over yet though. I hope this means something hun!!! I'm so excited!

Well, I'm still here but the crampiness is still on and off so I think it's just the normal progression. We'll see what this afternoon brings. That's when the crampiness has been the worst. And Amelia was moving a lot last night so that made me feel better. The nurse in my midwife's office called me this morning to make sure I was doing okay. I thought that was so nice! It makes me feel good about having chosen them.
