We had a good appt today. My blood pressure was good and Amelia's heart rate was in th 140s. And I finally had an internal check!! Yay!! I'm almost 2cm dilated and I'm 50% effaced. My midwife said she could feel Amelia's head - and Amelia actually moved when she touched her. Too funny! My midwife was like, "Whoa, that's a good little reaction!"
She asked me if I wanted her to sweep my membranes so I said sure. It wasn't at all painful, so I guess I lucked out on that. We'll see if it brings anything on. So far I don't really feel anything other than the same old crampiness. I did ask her what that was for those who have been feeling crampy as well. She said it was probably just the cervix "ripening" and from pressure of the baby's head. So it's good basically. It's not a "contraction," but it's progress.
Other than that, I was told to keep doing what I'm doing. She said she was glad to see I am where I am as a first time mom. So for now the waiting game continues...

Hollie that's awesome progression. Now I've heard of sweeping your membranes before. What exactly does this do? Is it to speed up your potential for your water to break on it's own? I'm so confused. I'm so glad your appointment went well. Are you happy with your progression. Did they discuss any inducing dates?

I don't really know anything about membranes, but if you're progressing, that's good news!

I guess sweeping (or stripping - I think it's called both) the membranes is when a Dr. or midwife sweeps a finger around your cervix. My midwife said the aim is to separate the membranes around your baby from your cervix and that it releases hormones called prostaglandins, which might kick-start labor. We'll see. So far I don't really feel any different. I've read online that sometimes it's effective, sometimes not. I'll take what I can get at this point, though!
As for inducing, she said they probably wouldn't consider that until I am a week and a half or so past my EDD. Gaaaaaa!!! Let's hope I don't go that long! I'm ready to meet my little girlie!
Oh, and I forgot to mention one of the best parts of this appt. I lost half a pound from last week. Woohoo!!! Haha! I know it's probably just a fluctuation of water weight at this point, but let me tell you - not seeing those numbers jump up was reeeeeally nice. It's been a while since that has happened!!
